I'm not sure where to put this post. You may stick it anywhere it belongs (up my butt not included). We now have these "tropical disturbances" taking aim on my lily pad.

Tropical Storm "Hanna" which is supposedly far enough away that I'm not to be concerned about the 2" of water on my patio. Of course by the weekend there will be sunny skies and temps in the 90's. That means the mosquitos will be out in full force (guess I know what I'm having for dinner)

Then here comes big brother "Ike" taking dead aim on So. Fl.. As a Cat 3 or 4 hurricane upon arrival there won't be much left of my lily pad. I just finally finished making all the repairs to my lily pad from Wilma (only a Cat 2) that arrived in 2005.

My heart's pounding and brain is racing. So much to do and so little time. Do I have enough supplies, what supplies, do I have to fight the lines in WalMart to get what I need. You all of a sudden realize how much you depend on things like cell phones, TV's, computers. Oh and raise your hand if you know how to cook over an open fire.

The weathermen make their projections with cones of probability and squiggly like projections. Everything keeps pointing in the direction of my lily pad. Not a good sign.

As for "Josephine", well for now she is the least of my worries. Besides I'll be lucky if there is any thing left after Ike.

I hope all of us at PC who live within reach of either of these storms stay safe. The days spent waiting, watching and experiencing will feel like a life time.

Hanna is arriving here in my town (SC) as I type this..wind blowing rain..pine trees bending,,,Casey my older Golden Retriever hiding in the shower...(God Bless her)...

I've done all I can do..battened down the hatches...put the stores up high...now we wait...

I'm not a fan of waiting..

I will be thinking of you froggy and all who face these acts of nature..

Yes Sabby, all those fishing and backpacking trips were worth it. I can even light a fire without a match. It sure is amazing the things you learn in childhood that come in handy when you're an adult.

I really do appreciate all your kind wishes. For now it is just a game of wait and see. According to the latest track Ike has moved slightly south. That could be good or bad I'm not really sure.

Orange, keep your peepers open. If it gets into the Gulf you never know what might happen.

Thanks all for your kind words of support. After a less that restful night I woke to find Ike took a southward turn. Not to say we won't get some pretty stiff winds but at least when I smile I won't loose my false teeth.

Will still have to keep my eye on him but Ike should be not as much of a threat for me.

But as/if Ike heads in to the Gulf OB and my other friend along the gulf of mexico may be in danger.

Kebby, I've got a lilly pad you can come stay in until all this passes over. I even have a room under my bed to keep your stash of fabrics. I'm stuffing "dammit dolls" at the moment so you can use the sewing machine.

All kidding aside, Hon, please stay as calm as possible and do what you can to keep yourself safe. You're in my thoughts and prayers. If I can mail you anything you need, just let me know and I'm Johnny on the spot!

Sept. everything looks ok now. Hurricane is headed towards cuba and the possibly gulf of mexico. I suppose we are not completely out of the woods but I am breathing at a more normal pace and I can no long feel my heart pounding in my chest.

I knew I might not be able to pack the family jewels but my fabric stash was definitely making it out of town.

The trouble is once Ike gets past cuba you don't have any idea where will be it's next port of call.

Glad your lilly pad didn't need oars.....not that they would work against a hurricane anyway. It is amazing how one never can predict Mother nature....one minute it's heading in one direction...the next, it's going the other way......

I remember my Grandparents in Topeka Kansas when the huge 4 block wide tornado cam sailing over the hill they said it would never come over.....it was heading like a freight train....right for their house....they could see it out the basement windows......then all of a sudden it changed course & ended up going completely through the town. Not good for the town.....but definitely good for them.
