I moved into my new appartment today. It's very ghetto compared to the other one, but there is no evil roommate around!! AND my mom helped me make it more homey and livable. We worked really hard to clean and disinfect everything, and then she bought me some fleece blankets to cover the gross furniture with. I'm FREE!!!! :) It's still a bit ghetto, but it's cozy and I'm free to live without the control of my EX-roommate!!!!

Yay!!!

I'm FREE!!!! :) Angela

*****POSSIBLE TRIGGERS*****LIFE IN THE GHETTO
Angela:

If you're going to live in the ghet-toe, sweetie, you'll have to get a pit bull, wear black lipstick, and learn how to hold your boyfriend's gangsta pants up while he inhales that stuff (smoke...what didja think I meant?)

I live in the REAL ghet-toe. We breathe a sigh of relief if our next door neighbors are only dealers who rearrange their ladies' tattoos bigtime. Eventually they get taken to federal prison and somebody of truly questionable character moves in. If something's on the furniture, they figure it couldn't be too bad, because the last tenants didn't come out feet first (some do). If something's on the wall, the spiders are saving it for later. If some small things run across the floor, these bruisers do what my Creative Writing professor did when he lived in Greenwich Village. They get down on the floor and say, "You can have the rest of the house, if you only stay out of the bedroom." They figure cats are for sissies, so they move out when the roaches and mice both break the agreement.

Seriously, I find there's a lot more freedom in the ghetto than in the gentrified parts of the city. And DOWN with all roommates!
Glad you made the move.

Ok, so my apartment isn't really "ghetto". And it's not the worst I've ever lived in for SURE. I didn't mean to offend by using that expression. It probably wasn't very sensitive of me. I didn't mean literally, just a figure of speech meaning it's not in the best shape, and not very attractive.

The carpet is all torn up and VERY stained and has burns in it. The walls are cinder block (so much for decorations!) And I don't even WANT to know what the GROSS stains on my couch are. We covered it up with fleece. All of the counters, doors, etc, obviously have been around since the 60s or 70s. And the girl who moved out recently left it really dirty. Blood in the bathroom, prechewed gum in the bedroom window sill, etc. Ew! huh?

But we disinfected everything, and I'm free of my mean roommate, so I'm ok with it. I'd rather live here than with her any day.

Angela

Angie & girls,

But how do I cover the cinder block walls with wall-hangings? Tape doesn't stick. That putty stuff doesn't stick. And a nail would either not go in, or would do too much damage. As for a rug, I would like to get one. However, currently I am unemployed and have been for 4 months, so I have no money for it! lol!!

And as to the cookies...I'm ready!!! I'm FREE!!!! :)

*hugs*

WoooooHoooooooooooooooo! You're free at last! I'm so happy for you!

Hey... have you tried those hooks by Command that come off easy by pulling something on the bottom? They look like stick ons but there's a little tag on the bottom that you pull and they come off. Wonder if that would work for you?

Another alternative; how about painting something on the wall, like a still life or some such and painting a frame around it? LOL Hey! It's worth a try!

Did you try some Fabreze on the furniture? There's some that cleans AND deodorizes. I'm FREE!!!! :)

Fleece sounds YUMMY!! You've got me thinking now. LOL I'm FREE!!!! :)

Good luck with your new place, Angela! You sure deserve the freedom!

Thanks, Tomi I'm FREE!!!! :)

I haven't tried those hooks. I could look into that.

I can't paint on the walls unless I can clean it off or cover it with paint later. I'm not sure if I could or not. But if I did, that would look pretty cool.

I tried using zout on the couch. It just grossed me out too much. I decided to cover it with fleece and pretend the yuckiness just isn't there. I feel protected from the yuck now that I have the fleece. And it is COZY! I'm FREE!!!! :)

I'm glad you're free too! When are you going to have us all over for a housewarming party? I'll bring some cookies and hot chocolate.

Rats, they didn't show up, but I'll bring them anyway.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!! It must be wonderful to be on your own with out the room mate from He--double hockey stiks LOL!!! Those hooks that have the tab on the bottom I tried those for x-mas lights on the windows and they fall off easy. Cinder blocks, what are those exactly? I know I use to walk on cider stones and they were black and pointy.

WTG!!! I am sooo happy for you!!!

WOOO HOOOOOO Now turn up the music and dance naked all night long if you like! (or in your undies like Tom Cruse did) ...LOL

You can go to your local paint store and ask them if they have any mis-tented paints.. they sell them much cheaper.. sometimes like $5 a gal..(hubby was a mgr at a large paint company for years) get a few colors mix together and have fun!

Congrats Angela!

In my experience, anything that you can get to stick to a cinder block wall, will leave a mark. We had to pick all the little foamy double stick squares off the wall...and the blue heavy duty stuff left blue marks on the wall. The 3M removeable hooks stayed for a while, but eventually fell. Same with duct tape.

Go for paint if you like painting. Then just paint over it white before you leave. I'm FREE!!!! :)

Yay! Again for you!

Angela,
Yeah they sell these hooks even ones that do not pull off that easily. I had concrete walls in my dorm rooms and those hooks were able to hold up tapestrys. What I did was tie the ends of the tapestry with a piece of string and loop it around the hook. It was a little tricky to get it even, but it held it up forever.
Maybe you could get some pretty lamps in funny shapes. They always add character to a room. Ooooo maybe a disco ball too. Fun fun fun

I'm FREE!!!! :)
