I really don't think that Candybear meant to be demeaning when she spoke. I took it to be a joke. Here it is close to Christmas and I'm sure some of us, ME, are strung just a little bit tight these days!! I'm working AND keeping my 5 year old granddaughter with me 24/7 and I'm about ready to scream. So, let's all kick back, look for some hemp bras or something else to light and enjoy each other. I am so grateful for this place that I hate to see any bickering......peace??? Pat

Works for me. I leave Friday morning to go spend 4 days with my abuser, speaking of being tightly wound. Peace and good will to all, and by the time the next newsletter rolls around, all the holiday nuttiness will be over and perhaps we'll all be our usual selves again (although my usual self is pretty durn nutty).

I understand where you're coming from, Candy. And I know you did a lot of work. I just don't feel that calling anyone idiotic is justified, nor supportive. It's just mean, and that's not ok with me at all.
But YOU ARE okay with me. I still love ya, and I forgive you. *hugs* if you want 'em Angela

I thought the article about the Christmas lights was funny. I guess I need to go get help because the first thing I did when I was out on my own was buy a box of Christmas lights and outlined my window with them. They are the first thing to go up and the last thing to go down. I bought even bigger bulbs this year so you could see them better.

In the article entitled, "The Patient-Therapist Relationship: Part 1: Choosing a Therapist", the author makes several errors in regards to educational preparation in the various fields.
1. While most psychologists hold Ph.D. or Psy.D. degrees, some doctoral-level psychologists hold Ed.D. degrees. 2. Several states license Master's Level psychologists to practice independently. 3. Most "Counsellor/Therapists" earn degrees in "Counseling" or "Counselor Education" rather than Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology. 4. Some "Counsellor/Therapists" go on to earn Ph.D.'s or Ed.D's in Counseling or Counselor Education. 5. Some psychologists (that is, people who have doctorate degrees in psychology) are choosing to license as Licensed Professional Counselors rather than Licensed Psychologists. 6. Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT's) were ommitted from the list entirely, though they are certainly state-licensed mental health professionals authorized to deliver independent psychotherapy in addition to family and couples therapy. (They typically earn MA's or MS's in Marriage and Family Therapy.) I don't mean to be nit-picky, but some people will look at this article and assume that anyone who isn't on the list must be a quack, so it seemed worthwhile to submit these corrections. It might also be useful to let people know that "clinical" Master's Degrees (whether they be in counseling, counseling or clinical psych, or social work) are very different than Master's degrees in other disciplines (MBA's, the humanities, academic psychology, etc.) insofar as they tend to require 24-32 more credits and typically require extensive internships. There are many other factors that a client/patient may want to take into consideration after education and licensing have been verified: Does the therapist have experience or specialized training in the area(s) in which the client/patient is having problems? Is the client/patient comfortable with the therapist on a personal level? |

JustBen, I understand what you said, however, the article was not about every single initials available to all therapist in all states and in all educational level. Putting everything in would turn the newsletter into a novel. Also, it was general and the most 'popular' for people to choose from.
Thanks for the feedback. In the future, I'll try to be more specific. |
