Hello,

I'm curious as to your knowledge about good clinical psych programs (especially with a concentration on health) in ok cities. I've been researching and am having trouble finding programs that are practice-oriented. Thanks!!

Have you looked at PsyD programs? They tend to be more practice-focused versus research focused.

Good luck!

How about Rutgers/New Brunswick graduate school of applied psychology? The PsychD program involves clinical work, and Brenna Bry, Phd teaches there and is my Aunt. She does so much for her students, takes them on trips, etc and she has helped me with my own illness. She is a caring person besides being so accomplished in her field. You write you are looking for a good location- New Brunswick has the advantages a close knit community has, with proximity to New York City, too. PM me and I could even arrange a phone call with her

U.S. News and World Reports ranks graduate programs in many disciplines. Here is their rankings of clinical psychology programs (displayed on a third party site):
http://gradschool.about.com/gi/dynam...sych_brief.php

The U.S. News and World Reports rankings are based on "expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school's faculty, research, and students."

Here's a different listing of top-ranked clinical psych programs in the U.S.:
http://www.socialpsychology.org/clinrank.htm

It's based mainly on publications, so not sure how useful that is.

Top Schools for Health Psychology:
http://education-portal.com/articles...sychology.html

If you dig around on the Internet, you can find various rankings.

At my university, there is a PhD program in psychology. There are 7 different areas of emphasis, including clinical psychology, social psychology, child clinical, behavioral neuroscience, etc. But they don't have an emphasis in health psychology, which is actually a relatively "new" discipline. If you are interested specifically in health psychology, a good first step is just to make sure the PhD program has an emphasis in health psychology, or has several faculty specialists in health psychology within their clinical program. These would be people you could do your dissertation with.

You might also try the website of the American Psychological Association - Health Psychology:

Best of luck. I find health psychology a very interesting area too.
