I lost my job and need some health insurance coverage. I'll have to get the short-term ones that apparently don't cover crap. I have no prior experience with this or choosing insurance and was looking for help and advice from someone who does. And if anyone knew which companies that offer short-term coverage are good to take or had ever used this insurance before? I'm overwhelmed & bewildered and don't have very long to decide.

You can continue your health insurance through your previous employer for 18 months through COBRA; however you have to pay for it. Let me get back to you with a little more information. You are in Tennessee, right?

I'm with blue cross, had it at my job prior to the storm. It has doubled since then. So not to long ago i started looking for something that might be cheaper. The cheapest i could find was right above 900 a month. The reason they all said was because of my mental illness, the bipolar, depression, anxiety and ptsd. Also the breast problems i've had since 2004. I tried getting away with not releasing all that info, but they contacted my regular doctor and i was busted.

I wish you the best of luck with it. And like someone said, if Cobra isnt as expensive as others you'll look into, i would stick with it.

When I graduated college and before I had a job that had insurance my father got a short term insurance with Mutual of Omaha. It's expensive and doesn't cover much, that's true but if you want insurance, maybe ask your car insurance carrier if they do health or if you have an agent and "know"/trust them ask? Otherwise, I'd use an online place like einsurance.com and get quotes from "good"/known companies like Aetna, etc.

I am finishing my Cobra actually, so that's why I need something else. It's stressing me out & overwhelming me so much that I can't even look into it further. I tried digging last week then saw all the sites, stipulations, etc. etc. & had to run away from it. But I can't because I need something super soon. Plus I want to make an informed decision, not a rash one. I will check the links you guys provided, thank you much!
