Such a waste...the numbers ARE overwhelming, makes me feel so insignificant. Wish there was more I could do to help those who are missing family and friends now.

It's so sad to hear, there will be over 100,000 people who have died. Disaster Relief -Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand My friends friend lives in Malysia, and haven't heard from her yet.

Also there are 3 Canadians that died.

I also heard of a victoria secret/swimsuit model went there to thailand with her photographer boyfriend, she said she heard kids screaming, and then there was nothing.

She clung to a palm tree for 8 hours, and her boyfriend got swept away, they still haven't found him.

It's so scary, and so terrible sad... Disaster Relief -Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand

THE USA still has nearly 3000 people unaccounted for in these disasters... The USA has promised $35 billion, and is sending in the Marines.

It's sad to think about, and sadder still of what is to come. There will be more loss because of the impending diseases that occur due to the carnage (typhoid fever to name one.)

And a thank you to DocJohn for making this a "sticky"

It's unimaginable, and overwhelming, and very much the entire world's problem, as people were there from all over the world. I watched something on the news about it. They said that if it had been the Pacific Ocean, there are detection and warning systems in place, and in fact it was detected in the Pacific, but the warnings didn't reach the affected locations in time. It was not the kind of thing that is expected to happen there. It's a tragedy.

Novica is a company I have done business with for years. They are affiliated with National Geographic. Novica finds master artists from around the world and helps them sell their products, and ship it directly to us. Back when I had some moola, I purchased many items from them and was delighted with every purchase. Their main site is www.novica.com

The reason I am telling you about them is because of an email I received from them today.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...through the month of January, 10% of all Novica web site sales from Thailand, India and Indonesia will be donated to UNICEF's Tsunami Relief Efforts:

Thailand:
http://www.novica.com/referral.cfm?c...2005010504&r=9

Bali & Java, Indonesia:
http://www.novica.com/referral.cfm?c...005010505&r=10

India:
http://www.novica.com/referral.cfm?c...005010506&r=15

Thank you and warmest wishes from the Novica global team,

Roberto Milk
CEO
NOVICA
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So if you happen to have an interest in international art, craft (weavings, rugs, etc.) and received any money for the holidays, this would be a great way to spend it. What I love is that in buying from Novica you are supporting the artists with a good income in their villages, not buying from trashy sweatshop labor. One thing to note, since the products are shipped directly from other countries, the shipping does take quite a while.
