Or General Anything?

I've wondered this before, and since I've been here forever, I've seen all sorts of stuff posted here. Topics having to do with mental health, social chat, and fun things like the music thread.

I'm going to put my 2 cents out here for your bashing, agreement, or ignoring. What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"?

Personally, I'd like to see a board which is for "General Mental Health" - for those things which cross categories ("my son is acting really wierd..."), asking general questions ("what is a pdoc?"), or you simply don't know which category your comment/question would fit into ("I have depression and anxiety and can't sleep...", or "Help, I'm really freaking out!!").

Then I'd like to see a Community Gathering board. That is where all the other stuff would go - the chit chat ("When I Check to See Who's Online"), the social stuff ("Snow Day!!!!), the fun stuff (music and movie thread), etc. And PLEASE don't bury it at the bottom of the board - it should be the FIRST thing listed. The community interactions are such a big part of this place!

So if that happened, the General board as it exists would no longer be needed.

OK...there ya go. Emily's Two Cents.

Ta Da!!

So where would stuff like "HOORAY!! Emmy's a Poohbah now!!!" go? Cuz that's is kind of a kudo (is there really a singular form of kudos?), but it is also about the community and the Great Em's place in it. And I would want everyone in the community to come join the party in honor of my favorite Poohbah.

Also, something like the fact that singular looks to me like it's spelled wrong and I just realized it's probably because of Cingular Wireless. Large companies are destroying the English language! Good grief! Would this be appropriate for the Community Gathering Board or more appropriate for the General Mental Health board because everyone will be wondering about mine? ("Psst, Em...what's wrong with Laurie? She's all up in arms about a cell phone company's name. I think she may be going off the deep end.")

Seriously, though, I agree it would help to have a distinction between the two types of posts. Sometimes I come here looking to read about mental health stuff, but other times I just want to play around.

So that's my two cents - or maybe more like a torn in half dollar bill. Thanks for reading.

lol...you two are too funny.

I think Emily has a good idea. Just to be devil's advocate ( What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"? ), we could get stuff REALLY specific..and that would be as bad as not specific enough. There has to be a happy medium. What that medium is...Heck if I know!

What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"? for making me laugh...and giving me something to think about.

Ooh! I love the idea of an Emily board. Or better yet, a Big Ole Gooberhead board. I think maybe just you and I would be allowed to post there, though What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"?.

Hugs to my partner in Gooberheadness,

This is what I mean....a thread was started tonight entitled "Favorite Flicks" in the General forum. It was just moved by a Moderator to the "Pets, Plants, Music, Hobbies and Other Fun Things" forum.

But still sitting in General is:

"What is playing on your stereo right now" with 165 replies.

Is music more General than movies?? Do movies make better pets or plants than music? Could DocJohn possibly come up with a longer forum name???

Yes, gg! I thought you might be a gooberhead, too, but I didn't want to assume. You know what that does.

So, you can be one of the three posters on the board. Perhaps we can take applications for the Gooberhead Board. We would, of course, have very strict guidlines for proving gooberheadness. There would be an extensive questionnaire and perhaps even and interview. References would be required. Not everyone can be a gooberhead, you know?

What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"? <----------- Why???

Gooberheads unite!

Hugs,
Laurie

Methinks ya'll are making much ado about nothing. There's WAAAAAY to many people on this board to try and "train" to go to the "Proper" forum.

As for Pat's threads on music; that last one was mea cupla. I dug up the thread that I did because the post wasn't about how a song had impacted me. It was just going through my mind and it was playing because of the weather. The song is cute and fun to sing. So shoot me! My thoughts were that another thread didn't need to be started. There's too much of that, too; same subject, many threads, but I'm not spazing out about it.

In short, there's too many people on this board to try and re-direct traffic. It would cause more confussion, hurt feelings, some anger, etc. to try and do it. Heck! People already don't read the "behavior and language" guidelines for posting as it is! What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"?

I'm not quite sure why it would cause "more confusion, hurt feelings, some anger" since it's the same number of Miscellaneous boards we have now - two. I sorta thought it would make it easier to know where things should go. Either it's general mental health or it's community socializing stuff. Maybe it only makes sense to me. Wouldn't be the first time! What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"?

Oy! What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"? Guess I was answering both you and Sky. I'm sorry! No, if you only want info about what should go where, yeah, a clearer understandong would be good.

Don't know how long you've been here, but I came on before the Pets, Fun Things, etc., forum so I just got used to posting fun things in General 'cause I guess back then it was General in general. Huh? What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"?

Maybe the location of the forums has something to do with it. Don't know what location would be better, either, but the fun forum seems to be too far down on the list. People are usually in a hurry to post and don't take the time to scroll down. I don't know! What is "General"? Is this "General Mental Health"? Maybe? Or maybe people feel their post won't get read "down there."

Ok... so I'm gonna start posting fun things in the fun forum. That makes two of us that it makes sense to. LOL

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
