So, I was talking to my brother this morning, and he shared with me the story of his evening yesterday.

He woke at 6 after an afternoon nap. His gf was in the kitchen when she called to him that she heard something in the vent hood over the stove. She thought it was a bird. He went out...but didn't hear anything... at first.

He heard something rustling in the duct work for the vent hood. So they called the emergency 24hr. maintenance line for the complex. The lady tells them she will call the maintenance man.

An hour later...no maintenance man. So they called again. This time the maintenance man calls back and says he doesn't feel like coming over because he'd been shoveling snow all day. Which he had been doing...but my brother was still a little peeved. Especially when he found out the guy lived next door.

At this point, my brother decides to take things into his own hands. Just as he is putting the chair by the stove to see what is up there, the doorbell rings. It's the maintenance man, "curiosity got the best of me" he says.

So they get a towel to grab the bird with so they can toss it outside. The maintenance man takes off his gloves and wraps the towel around his hand. My brother pulls back the duct work and the guy grabbed the bird...which starts screeching. Then a second bird flies out and heads for the living room. At this point, one of my brother's cats tucks his tail between his legs and bolts for the utility closet. A bird in the hand... The other one is just standing there.

So the second bird is flying around his apartment and crazy maintenance man (his words) grabs the second bird, BAREHANDED. They take them outside and throw them up in the air. Both birds fly off. lol

Thus ends his excitement for the evening and begins the trauma for his kitties. I start laughing every time I think about it.

Just thought someone might enjoy my story. A bird in the hand...

a great story.....my friend has an obese black lab, that is the least "hunting dog" that i've ever seen, named "Dixie"....he called all excited one night and said "Dixie" had her first unassisted "kill"!! i asked him what had "Dixie" kill? and he started laughing so hard that he could hardly talk.....she had accidentally stepped on a mouse and when she raised her foot and saw it, she shrieked and took off!!! then the mouse ran off...

My old house had birds coming down the heating vent all the time. Baby house sparrows that nested in the attic. I miss them.
