Wasn't the Kennedy administration one of the last ones when men wore hats? JFK was a thorn in the side of the men's millinery industry bec. he never wore hats and showed off his great hair.

The male hat business started going downhill and never recovered.

Hats are one of those things that comes and go with other fashion trends. I'm sorry to see them currently on the "out" in fashion, but hoping the day will arrive when it will once again be fashionable to wear them (certainly women have more latitude with hats than men nowadays, at least in formal situations).

I will confess to loving a hat on a man.....and when I'm photographing rodeo, I can identify a cowboy by the crease of his hat...from across the arena!! I like hats on men and women.....I wish they were "in" again. I have a collection of vintage ladies hats.....lovely lace, net, flowers, straw, etc. I did a ceiling in a bedroom with them....A fedora okay......silly time. why are people not wearing hats at the swearing in???????? is so sexy!!!!

Hats on the ceiling! What a great idea for replacing my old-fashioned lowered ceilings that I can't afford to have replaced with drywall and painted. You are a creative genius, Fayerody.

I agree, doc. Be a trend-setter. My ex started wearing hats back in the 70s. Gets them all at a very traditional male milliner in New Orleans, been in business for decades.

But ugh on the baseball cap -- especially the backward baseball cap -- for guys. Gosh, does that look goofy and brainless.

The way to change the trend is for us all to start wearing hats. Then, I don't care about fashion - warmth matters more to me. I wear hats a lot - mostly knitted ones. And I don't necessarily take them off indoors. I was taught that ladies don't ever have to remove their hats.

How do you fasten them up there on the ceiling? I wonder if that would work with all the stuffed animals we're too attached to to let go of, but which don't really have a place to belong.

girl.....that would work for stuffed animals....i use push pins or upholster pins........it depends upon the hat. i think upholstery pins are safer as they will go through the sheet rock all the way.......and the animals will be heavier, much, than the hats....p
photograph your efforts and post the pic!!!

FAYE: I'm with you. In temps like that, my nose and both ears would drop off if I weren't wearing a very cozy hat with flaps. Or a fake-fur-lined parka. Or both!

I love the idea of attaching stuffed animals to the ceiling. You have given me some good ideas for hiding my ugly ceilings.

There's no end to what you can do with ugly ceilings. you can buy wallpaper and stretch and pin it to ceiling. you could buy fake flowers and create a lovely "bower" effect......fabric is probably one of the easiest and coolest things to do. You can attach it flat or build a frame work and loop the fabric and let it sway a little. there is a very expensive restaurant in Santa Fe that did this. And fabric is cccccccchhhhhhhhheeeeep.....a thin billowy one works best.....beautiful. the frame work is minimal and very easy to do....you could even string really strong cord across a few times.......good ceiling covering!! okay......silly time. why are people not wearing hats at the swearing in????????

I love the draped fabric idea. What is the frame like? What is it made out of? I wish I could see a pic of one of these ceilings.

I already have a dropped ceiling framework to work with -- not that it is very nice as is. Those plastic panels are ugh-ugly.
