"The alleged victim in a 1977 sexual assault case against director Roman Polanski has filed court papers seeking dismissal of the charges against him."

I understand her point of view, however he plead guilty! I don't think this woman should not be bothered, but he still needs to be punished for his crimes, including running from the law.

Oh, gee!! I thought at first he was up to his old shenanigans again!

You bet he should be punished!

I wonder in how many societies a 40-something man having sex with a 13-year old girl would bring such attention and opprobrium? I don't know the specifics of this case, but I think in some societies it would not necessarily be such a big deal.

Hmm... I'm sure in other cultures, it isn't frowned upon. I can't get past it, myself, though. I'm glad I was raised in a society that frowns upon it. I know. It's societal conditioning!

It doesn't matter what other societies would deem acceptable in this case. Here he broke the law, admitted his guilt then fled. The fact that he's been living a great life in the mean time only adds insult to injury. The famous and wealthy should NOT have a different form of justice. Nor do I think his own personal tragedy should give him a get out of jail free card. He does have the advantage of only being held accountable to the laws of 1977. In my own opinion, since he fled he should be sentenced by according to current laws.
