So WTF! Why even bother interviewing me if the job was already gone! I guess I was just there to make up the numbers! That's not fair, not fair at all!
As a person that used to hire people for an national company, you can thank EOE for wasted interviews. It has to do with hitting a quota of minorities in hiring. I used to suggest applicants throw away the minority inquiry sheet. It does them no favors.
BTW, don't give your social security number before hire. I used to be able to get $65 for a resume with salary history and a SSN.
Thanks for this!

Peg,

I have been in and out of work since closing down my business less that two years ago. Looking for work is frustrating, but we have to do it.

Often, the person handling the interviewing is not aware of when and where a new person is hired. He/she is skilled at interviewing, but is not privy to all information.

If this is a company you really wanted to work for, keep in touch with them. Some of the new hires may not work out, and they may need you anyway.

I have never understood the "over qualified" thing. If my qualifications exceed your needs and I'm willing to work for you, what difference does it make? You're getting more for your money.

I'm sorry that you got caught in the process. I do understand why they established the rules, but it is very pointless just going through the motions. I agree with you that it was very kind of the interviewer to be honest with you, they usually just say they've gone in another direction and you're left wondering what the heck is going on.

Overqualified means too old or that the person has had to many jobs. I had a real nice list of all the ambiguous answers that kept the company out of trouble. I always had interviews with coffee and donuts. Seens only fair the interviewee got something out of the effort.

Umm...No, I was definitely overqualified for the job, I knew that but wanted to do it anyway.
