I guess most of you will know where/why I'm coming from with this thread. I'm trying to make a list of men who aren't/weren't attractive who wind up with beautiful women. My list with reflect my generational knowledge. I'm looking forward to getting insight into younger members' choices.

1. Aristotle Onassis. Bagged beautiful opera singer Maria Callas and married one of the most, beautiful, accomplished, famous women of her time -- Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy.

2. Mick Jagger. Face it ladies, if he wasn't a rock star and bagging groceries, would the groupies line up?

3. Rolling Stones guitar player Keith Wynan (have I got the last name right). Heroin addict, alcoholic, dissipated, he looks like heck. Yet he married an 18-yr-old when he was in his late 40s. He'd be carrying a "will work for food" sign at intersections if that group hadn't made it.

4. Ringo Starr.

5. Jackie Gleason. Married one of his June Taylor dancers.

6. There are twin dwarfs in our area who do commercials. One is married to a beautiful, tall blond woman. For that matter, when I worked in horse racing, it was a given that jockeys would date beautiful statuesque blonds. Not the petite gals -- the tall model-types.

7. Fatty Arbuckle. Involved in one of the greatest Hollywood sex/murder scandals, during the 1930s with a really pretty actress who died. Fatty's name tells all we need to know about his appearance.

8. Sonny of Sonny and Cher. Let's not forget he bagged the beauteous Cher before he made her famous.

9. Yassar Arafat. My choice for "homeliest man in international politics." Married a lovely blond from the U.S.

10. Writer Norman Mailer -- he's been married, what, 7 times at last count?

11. Steven Spielberg. A genius yes, gorgeous bod -- no. Has been married to two extremely attractive actresses. (not at the same time, of course)

Looking forward to finding out others' choices.

I was reading on your post about the twin dwarfs. They are the Rice brothers. I also see by your name that you are from SE Fla. I was born and raised in Fla. I use to run into the twins all over the place in West Pam Beach, Palm Beach and Lantana. I for one have seen their wives and i have to tell you...Youre right. Their wives are model material and those guys arent much too look at Unattractive men, beautiful women

FOr some reason I think it's more accepted for beautiful women to be with unattractive men.

Whoooa -- wait a minute! I think Billy Bob and Lyle Lovett are attractive!

Can't say the same for Mick Jagger, although he does have a ton of charisma, which goes a long way on its own.

[www.CapMag.com] Suppose you saw a fat, old, ugly, cigar-smoking man married to a beautiful young lady, what prediction would you make about the man's income? If you're like most, you'd predict that this guy has a lot of money. In effect, that fat, old, ugly, cigar-smoking man is telling the woman, "I can't compete for your hand on the basis of a guy like Williams, so I'm going to offset my handicaps by offering you a higher price." In the name of fairness, should that kind of discrimination be banned -- namely beautiful women treating ugly old men differently from handsome young men?

I came across this article too by way of a google search.

OUOTE from the article: The results of this makes distressing reading for the plain and ordinary....

BINGO! What I've been attempting to say all along. Good looking people being rewarded and ugly people being punished by society has been going on since day one and it will never change. Methinks too many people don't want to accept this fact.

Why are good looks so important if you have a good heart

You're right -- I don't accept that theory and it completely offends me that you would generalize women like that. I know that you have your personal hurt regarding this issue, but I still contend that looks have wayyyy less to do with whether I am attracted to a guy or not. I'm far more interested in the chemistry and whether they have a good heart.

A good heart IS what matters. That good heart will more likely be discovered by others if it happens to come in a "good outside shell".

LMo, you would also be offended by what science has proven about human nature. This politically correct mentality which seems to define right and wrong has brain washed people into believing there's something superficial about beng attracted to someone's looks. That's the way nature made us. They've even done extensive studies with infants and it's been proven that even they have a much more positive reaction whan shown pictures of attractive people. Nature doesn't have to be beautiful or ugly. It just IS.

Keith Richards is Roling Stones' guitarist (the former heroin addict). Bill Wyman used to play the bass with the Stones; he's the one who married an 18 y.o. in his 40s - although I really can't see what's the deal with age difference.

To me, attraction is about some much more than looks... Sex, love, hate, fear... all in the head.

Attraction is about more than looks in the long run. Maybe I can explain it this way. Take the game of baseball as a way to explain this. Once you hit the ball, you have to run to first base before you are able to reach second, third, or home plate. The ultimate goal in baseball is to score runs. The ultimate goal of a relationship would be to discover all the things that truly matter besides looks, such as personality, one's good heart, etc. Think of it this way as "looks" being the same as 1st base. Hitting a single and reaching 1st base is not nearly as important as rounding the other bases and reaching home plate . ...... Here's the point. Looks are the same as 1st base...... Once you're thrown out and can't reach 1st base, that's it! Life is the same , like it or not.

Guy -- I hear where you're coming from, but call me brainwashed if you must. I still disagree that you can apply those types of 'human nature' studies to every woman.

In fact, if you and I were on a date and you told me something like that, there would not be a 2nd date... even if I felt chemistry with you.

I'm starting to get a sense that your bitterness might be getting in the way of your relationship potential. I'm not criticizing ... I'm just giving you something to think about. You obviously know yourself way better than I know you, so you can think about it and say "nah, doesn't apply to me" and I won't suggest it again. But I do think you owe it to yourself to give women a little more credit than you are.

Kindly,
LMo

CheshireCat and I love each other very much but we have not even exchanged photos of each other. He has absolutely no idea what I look like and has never even asked. He doesn't even know the colour of my eyes or hair. He knows absolutely NOTHING including my age. I just pray that he can love me for who I am, the person he has gotten to know on the net, in e-mails and over the phone and physical appearance will be irelevant when we meet in person. That's not saying that I'm ugly but I can't lie and say it doesn't concern me because it does. As for him, I love him for who he is on the inside and the outside package won't make any difference whatsoever. Unattractive men, beautiful women

Nope! Totally disagree with this perspective. IG, you're bound and determined to hang on the scewed perseptions of yourself. GEEEEZZ! You think maybe we're going to get tired of trying to help you to see things differently?? DAMN! You're not the Phantom of the Opera or the Elephant Man! What about that kid in that Cher movie. Did it have something to do with a mask? I dont remember. I'm willing to bet you dollars to donuts that you don't suffer that ridicule from ANYONE!

You know? If you can't be convinced that you're not ugly, why don't you have plastic surgery done?? But then, the mirror would likely as not lie to you, too, just like you think the rest of us have been.

One last time! It's your attitude about yourself that reflects on your face, in your eyes, the way you carry yourself and the way you present yourself to others! Change your attitude and your face will change! IT'S NOT YOUR LOOKS, MAN! IT'S YOUR ATTITUDE!
