Does any one know who a person would call to have a Tax Lien from their ex-husband taken off their personal credit report?

I'm trying to help my older sister get her credit report straighten out and that cheating ex of hers has went and messed my sisters life up again with all the IRS Taxes he still owes from when he had his own business.... and my sister is suffering as they keep posting this darn Tax Lien on her SS # when it should only be on his number.

Please... Don't suggest we contact the IRS as we have been there done that and it has not helped.

Any advice would be appreciated..... Thx.

Have you all called the county or state that placed the tax lien? Maybe they still have on their records that they are still married? If that's the case it would go on both their credit reports. Have you checked all 3 credit reports? The ppl who placed the Tax Lien would be the ones who are still reporting to the credit reports. Start with them and then see about getting the info removed once they stop reporting.

I've had weird stuff I had to fix. I had my credit card on my father-n-law's credit report. They had gone by my mailing address and not SS# when reporting to credit. You get a free credit report a year, everyone should check their reports to look for mistakes and ID thift.

It is the P**** County Circuit Court (the county we live in) that has placed the Tax Lien on her credit report..... should we start there?

That's where I would start. Maybe going down there in person would help. Make sure you take all your paperwork with you and don't forget to take the DIVORCE papers. That way you can show when they divorced. See what happens there.

Good Luck

rhapsody, your sister can file a rebuttal to the 3 big credit report companies too. first she needs their reports and then she can send them a complaint that this is showing up on her credit report. that info will be posted then as a rebuttal to the false info. then that gives her some time to fix the problem but this part is easy and at least it will be posted so creditors can see her rebuttal and the facts behind it. hope this helps.

You can file a correction to your credit report.

And this is done with each individual credit place? - is this different than a rebuttal.
I am lost here.... as I have always had good credit, therefore, I never had to deal with this.
