We have 3 contests this year to celebrate our annual celebration on April 20. The descriptions of each are below.
1. Inspirational Imagery Create an image -- it can be a photograph or graphic of some kind -- that encompasses what Psych Central means to you. Some might call this "our mission," but you may also think of it as how does Psych Central inspire you? Five finalists will be chosen from the entries, and one winner will be voted on by the entire community. Entries should appear only in the Creative Corner forum and should be labeled with "Image Contest: [name of image]" in the subject line. You should also explain the image a bit in the post, and how the image relates to how you view our mission here at Psych Central. Entries must be posted no later than by Saturday, APRIL 18 to be considered. Entries will be voted on by the membership on APRIL 18-20 and a winner announced on April 20. 2. Poetry or Prose Create a poem or essay that encompasses what Psych Central means to you. Some might call this "our mission," but you may also think of it as how does Psych Central inspire you? Five finalists will be chosen from the entries, and one winner will be voted on by the entire community. Entries should appear only in the Creative Corner forum and should be labeled with "Poem Contest: [name of poem or essay]" in the subject line. Entries must be posted no later than by Saturday, APRIL 18 to be considered. Entries will be voted on by the membership on APRIL 18-20 and a winner announced on April 20. 3. Daily Trivia for a Week Beginning on Monday, April 13 and ending April 20, a set of three trivia questions will be posted every day to the Question of the Week forum. The first member to answer all three questions correctly each day in the thread will win that day's trivia. You need to get all three answers correct, or else you will not win. Trivia questions will be on all things mental health, psychology and Psych Central. The time of day the questions are posted will vary to try and give different members a chance at winning. You can only win once for the trivia contest, in order to give all members who want to play a chance, thank you! 4. A fourth contest has just been added to the fun and games!! We're fast approaching our 1,000,000th post!! Choose a day and time of when you believe this will happen and post your guess here. The member who is closest to the actual day and time (whether the guess is before or after it actually happens) wins!! All guesses must be made by midnight ET on April 20, 2009. ========================================== All finalists will get a free Psych Central t-shirt and pen. Winners will also have their winning entries displayed on Psych Central. Void where prohibited. Contest prizes good only for inhabitants of the United States. ALL MEMBERS may enter a contest and even become a finalist. However, due to varying laws in each country, we cannot award prizes to international members. ========================================== We will also randomly choose members who post on April 20 to receive any remaining t-shirts we may have. If your jurisdiction's (state, country, whatever) laws don't allow for this contest, then this contest is not applicable to you in your jurisdiction. Just some legalese we have to put in there to make the lawyers happy...

Because people happen to be constantly posting poems, stories, pictures, etc. to that section you might want to have the mods or admins sticky the contest entries temporarily so they can all be easily found. It might also be a good idea to repeat this announcement IN the Creative Corner with the instructions above, and sticky it there too, so that those inclined to post there don't miss it.
Just some suggestions.

as a jew i can never celebrate on april 20th. it is hitler's birthday and the anniversary of colombine massacre. too big a trigger. sorry.

Doc, pc's creation is worthy of a grand celebration. It has brought comfort and help to so many. I personally love to write and post my poetry here. However I don't feel like I could enter a poem in the contest, as my abuses involve rejection and abandonment issues. I don't seek to have my poems be awarded anything, but just appreciated and liked. I know there are other people here with much more talent than myself and I don't feel that having my work judged in comparrison to others work, would benefit my healing process at this time. I hope others will enjoy.

Just an after thought.
If entries could be submitted in such a way that the members name is not revealed till after the voting. That way , no one who know who did submit work . . And no one would know who was behind the work durring the voting proess. . Kinda a "saving face " measure . And maybe more people would enter . ....LOL ?Patricia |

Patricia brings up a good point. Anonymity may be a requirement or desired for some, so we're going to encourage members who want to submit anonymous entries for either the graphic or poetry contests (you can still win, we just won't post your name attached to the entries) to do so by submitting to our email address:

Where I am accepted for being just me Where i'm never judged by the friends i made and try not to judge others who ask for my aid Where I have learned we are not alone in trying to cope its the place this has given me back my hope

Mal stands corrected. Apparently they moved things around behind the scenes again and the universe wherein this date had been April 19th no longer exists. Perhaps someone thought the number 20 would be more memorable. Or perhaps they thought 19 to be too much a dead giveaway seeing as it bes the number of manifestation. No matter -- your universe wherein the correct date would be April 20 appears to have prevailed. Kindly ignore its previous post and any indications that any such universe other than this one ever existed.
