It said that my family member who went missing was found safe. It couldn't be further from the truth.

It was posted in their online edition. They have since blackened out the page but the headline is still there. What a weird, heart-stopping moment.

Journalism & news reporting is about dead in this country
At least ones that are professional & have any integrity
I dealt with this alot when my son died. There were a handful of inaccuracy, but they were just worried about getting the most sensational story out they could.

I remember a few years back when the national news networks made a major mistake like this during the Coal mining disaster...I think it was in Virginia or West Virginia...if my memory is incorrect about the state my apologies...Both Fox with Giraldo Rivera & CNN with Anderson Cooper was reporting that all the minors were out & alive at one point. This was not only inaccurate it was also unprofessional & reckless. I remember seeing the data of how long they were trapped in the mines along with the chemicals & toxins they were exposed to in that time. In a half an hour sitting in my living room I created a statistical model that showed that case was a statistical impossibility
They created so much false hope & heart break because they wanted to be first

It was a statistical anomoly that the lone person who did survive made it

I'm so sorry that you & your family had to deal with yet another instance of unprofessional reporting..I've been there...
Thanks for this!

Oh ((((hug))) I'm so sorry they did that.

Yes, in this country it used to be to wait, best be correct. Now it's better first than right. (In general.)

That's why I say that the new terrorists are MEDIA!

Grrr.

If you wish, and think it will help you to cope, send them a letter...to the editor... expressing your disgust!

That's a great idea if you feel up to it Orange. Bearchic34 wrote a letter to our local newspaper, blasting them & their editorials about the situation around Storm's death. They actually made it front page. Anger & raw human emotions sell even if it's somebody mad at them.

That being said though, even though I didn't write it, it made me feel alot better that she did on my behalf...I could care less that it was front page it would have meant the same to me if they never acknowledged it.

Maybe it'll help a little

Im sorry you had to see that! Our campus newspaper isn't much better. Last year a student died of natural causes in one of the dorms and they called the mother to ask how she felt but she hadn't heard yet. So she ended up hearing the news of her college-age son's death over the phone from a reporter.

And last week they reported a story about a student whos family was killed by a mentally unstable ex-boyfriend of a dughter and they reported every little detail. Putting what the people were saying to the killer as he tied them up and everything.

News people really irk me sometimes. I also think, if youre up for it, that you could write a letter. You might actually get some results - none of them will make up for it of course but at least you might get some kind of condolensces out of them.
Thanks for this!

So so sorry for such torment. Idiots! i agree with writing a letter to the editor if it brings you any comfort. Don't let it be a chore though--if it is, leave it. It's better to take care of yourself than let their stupidity take even more out of you.
Thanks for this!

They finally took it off the site. I guess they assumed the word "found" must've meant " found alive." Newspaper made a terrible mistake!

I do want to thank all of you for your hugs, thoughts, prayers and support. It has been a rough 2009 for me so far. Wednesday marks the anniversary of my brother's death (the one that died from an overdose) but I know I'll get through it. I always do with you guys by my side.

****** police say ***** *********, the woman who had gone missing Thursday night, was located, but they are not releasing any other information. A headline Sunday should not have stated that she was "found safe." Police again refused further comment yesterday.
