So I bought these at the health food store.

Reasons;
- Severe anxiety/panic (Although being back high dose prozac has worked extremely well)
- Irritability/agitation/paranoia/hyper (When not taking ritalin for adhd)
- Improve sleep
- Just to calm down basically.
- Maybe increase dopamine (l-Theanine).

I took the Kava kava and is a bit relaxing but I don't want to take it often because of the possible liver damage that it can cause. I tried valerian root and it didn't do anything.

So I think the l-Theanine is pretty safe to take with prozac because it is known to increase dopamine and help with psychotic symptoms at the same time. (Check there).

Not sure about taking the 5-HTP. My next psychiatrist appointment is in a few weeks but I can wait. Any views on interactions with Prozac (SSRI) would be helpful.

The reason that I'm looking into these is because my new psychiatrist doesn't prescribe benzos so he took me off of them which isn't much of a problem idc. I also hate hate hate taking antipsychotics.

Any views/experiences on this would be good thanks

I would warn against the 5-HTP with Prozac or any other antidepressant, just because most of the research I did on it said you could not take them together.

I took 5-HTP and for me it was a bad experience. It threw my temperature off wack, made me extremely thirsty, and made me have really bad/weird dreams. I got little to no sleep on it. This was at a dose of 100mg.

It is generally ill-advised to take 5-HTP with SSRIs because of the risk of serotonin syndrome, which can be potentially life-threatening.

What effects are you hoping for from the L-theanine? I drink green tea, which contains the chemical. regularly for the anti-oxidants. Haven't noticed any effects on my mood though. L-theanine is also part of a melatonin-based sleep aide that I take, which works wonderfully. L-theanine's job, as far as I know, is to aid relaxation.

I would also warn against taking 5-HTP with Prozac. To much serotonin is not a good thing and can have lots of side effects.

I take Melotonin with L Theanine - not sure if this is helping me, going to keep taking it because I have very seasonal cyclical depression and it is supposed to help with seasonal circadian rhythms along with daily sleep circadian rhythms.

Chamomile tea helps a lot - you can feel the sedating effects right away

But I am also taking a benzo so.....

I take periodically 5-HTP 200MG and Kava Kava 100MG as a daily supplentent and I have notice it helps me with my sleeping patterns and my sleeping pattern in General has improved since I started taking it. What I like the most is that these are over the counter therapies (no need to go see a doctor). One time in my life I was once on anti depressants and benzo, but no longer need them. These two supplents in my view help a lot for perhaps mild to medium depression/anxiety.

big no on the 5-htp with prozac. serotonin syndrome can kill you, it's not something to play at.

Which repairs the brain?

Tryptophan, 5-HTP, L-theanine?

Ya I heard that from SometimesPsychotic. There has been research that L-Theanine helps with anxiety and psychosis. I'll take it now. It says take 2 pills a day so that's 400mg.

Kava kava is a bit relaxing but I'm not taking it often because of the liver problems that it can cause.

5-HTP.. I guess I shouldn't take it with Prozac 80mg. Maybe just 10mg instead of 100mg a day? It gives the brain serotonin.
