I am wondering if anyone has had any relief from NAC, fish oil or any non herbal supplements. I am wanting to decrease my medication coctail. I will still take a minimum of standard medications. My main problem is major depressions. I become bipolar from the stimulating effects of antidepressants. So any ideas a greatly appreciated. I exercise and eat well. Plus I drink 2liters of water a day.

I use NAC and omega-3 supplements. I think they've helped, especially the NAC. I remember feeling markedly different the first day I took it.

I usually take 1200mg--600mg (one capsule) before I got to bed and another capsule in the morning or afternoon sometime. I think the studies I've seen have used 1800mg as the dose, though.

I take a nutraceutical, Cerefolin NAC, which helps with mood elevation, brain fog and energy! I've heard St. John's wort helps with depression, but I've never tried it.

I take a vitamin d as my levels were low ( used to take 3 ) as I believe low levels of vitamin d are linked with depression. I take high dose of omega 3 fish oil Blackmores brand ( omega brain) sometimes and previously a naturopath prescribed GABA but at the time I wasn't taking mood stabiliser or antipsychotic. What is NAC?

Had a hard time with the fish oil yesterday. Almost vomited it up. It calmed down thankfully and I was able to settle my stomach with tea. I really want this to work.

NAC Is n-acetyl-cystine. It is an amino acid that is being used for depression in studies. I got some from amazon. It comes in a capsule form. It is really smelly.

Beware St. John's Wart as it effects the brain much the same was as Prozac and as a result it can react with psych meds and you should be monitored while on it and tapered of it you decide to quit.

I just ordered some rhodiola rosea to help with my depression and anxiety. I have a lot of difficulties with cognitive processing, shake from anxiety, and have very low energy/motivation. My husband is against me being on psych meds and a psych nurse recommended it for conditions such as this. I am eager to see how it works for me and will certainly share the results.

I am curious if you can take NAC with SAM-e, if so I am thinking it might help to add the NAC to SAM-e. Anybody taking both?

One thing worth trying is reducing or eliminating gluten from your diet. I was not feeling well for quite some time and insisted my Dr. do blood tests because I didn't know what was wrong but something was definitely not right. The blood tests came back and my thyroid numbers were very high (much higher than the normal range) which indicated problems. We tried a thyroid supplement for a few months and re-tested but it didn't help. We removed gluten and added B and D vitamins and my blood tests finally came back normal for my thyroid. Not only did removing the gluten take away the sluggish and foggy feeling and give me energy, but it also helped with the mild depression I felt for a while. It worked great and have been doing it for a year now. I hope it continues.
