Just wondering if anyone was able to discontinue their medication after they were "cured" by ECT? What about reduce their meds. I am currently on Effexor xr 450 mg., WelbutrinXL 450mg. Abilify 15 mg. and would like to see those medications, and my waist line get degreased. I tae luniest 3mg and klopin .5 mg. for sleep.

Thank you,

I know of myself and several other people who have been through ECT. No one is "cured" by ECT; it is a treatment, and all of us required continued therapy and medications. What it did do is get us through the severe, suicidal, hospitalized episode we were in. It is a treatment with serious potential side effects and you really need to be aware of those and consider them before you make that kind of decision.

I was not able to stop meds after ECT - for me it was just another treatment too....not a cure. It worked well for me, except for erasing a lot of memories and making me afraid to drive in unfamiliar places!
