Has anyone been treated with Ketamine? It is the most important discovery to date. Reports are that it brings relief in a very, very short time. It has been FDA approved and used for many years as an anesthetic on both humans and animals and some doctors are using it now as an "off-lable" treatment for depression. See the website "Ketamine Advocacy Network." If anyone is interested I can furnish references to many reports on medical websites concerning it. Although I have experienced several clinical depressions I am now doing pretty well but I am researching Ketamine because of a daughter who has suffered for many years.

Welcome to the Community, nsjacn. Is professional help for your daughter off the table? Are you confident you are the one that should be giving her medications?
I wish you and she well. |

I am also very interested in how ketamine turns out. How effective it is mainly and for how long.

there is a thread already below this. look on page 2 i think?
i was one of the first in the country to be treated at uc san diego's ketamine for depression clinic. it did not work for me. i also tried nasal ketamine which also did not work. again, it may work for some. what i find more hopeful is the drugs that are being trailed that work on glutamate (like ketamine). these are think may be the next generation of antidepressants. for example; google search 'glyx-13.' hoping this gets thru trials and gets to us sooner rather than later. doing long-term ketamine infusions can be severely problematic to your overall health as well as expensive. good luck to us all. john |

I did 8 Ketamine infusion treatments. I did not respond to ECT and had a minimal response to the ketamine. Never the less, I have seen some people have very quick and amazing results for depression.
A Ketamine nasal spray can also be used, but it has to be compounded by a pharmacy and you will need to find a doctor willing to prescribe it. The directions were 1 spray, wait 15 min, and repeat for a total of 4x, 2x a week. This can help but it doesn't appear to have such a robust response as the infusions, but perhaps better for maintenance after the infusion. Ketamine's is a strong NMDA receptor antagonist, which is suppose to be the reason it helps depression. There are other medications that are also NMDA antagonist, which can be effective for depression. Depression would be a off label use. You just need to find a knowledgeable doctor who is willing to try different avenues. Good Luck!
