One pdoc years ago actually said i could take it with my med but i didnt take it too long. Maybe i shouldnt even bother with st johns wort at this point considering how bad im doing. im so confused..

I don't know... I wish I did. I am in a bad place myself but can't take antidepressants anymore... They pretty much all give me a rash/make me itch and give me a lot of side effects. Unfortunately I can't even take St. John's wort because I get a rash and itch on that as well.
If it were me and I could go back to when I was on Celexa and never got off it, I would, but I can't now. My body just won't take it now.

For me it works very well (in tincture form).
No, it doesn't "cure" my depression, but it takes the edge off well enough so i am able to body surf through it and see the light.

It works in a similar fashion to the SSRIs. If you've used 4-5 SSRIs without results, St. John's Wort is unlikely to be beneficial. If you've only used a couple, or had success but discontinued due to side effects, then it's definitely worth a shot. Good luck!

There is some evidence that St John's Wort can help people who live with clinical depression.
However it can interact in a negative way with other medications - for details check out St. John's wort: MedlinePlus Supplements .

Tried it every day for 4 months at the required dosage for severe depression and bipolar disorder and found no difference whatsoever. Some have success, some don't. It's worth a try.

All I know about it is that it you need to be careful taking it as it can interfer with other medications and do more harm than good

I had bad nightmares soon after I started taking it. Same with a friend of mine who tried it. It's supposed to be a rare effect, but it can happen.

It's been a very long time since I tried it (15 or 20 years), but I had a very negative reaction to St. John's Wort. I can't remember what my symptoms were, but I've been very careful when experimenting with supplements since then.

I am certain that everyone is different, but I have had horrendous reactions to St. Johns Wort. Some of the worst panic I've ever experienced, and on one occasion I had to go to the ER because I could barely keep my eyes open and had problems standing up. Just be cautious, and try a very low dose to start. Star of Bethlehem has helped me with panic without any awful side effects.

I tried SJW for a while (capsules) and couldnt feel anything good or bad. I had immediate positive results (concentration, confidence) from ginghko biloba, but a clinical study mentioned on WebMD recommended taking it just 6 months.
Also taking double RDA of Folic Acid and 6000-10,000 IU of Vitamin D has helped my depressive cloudy mind and pain sensitivity/malingering. |
