Hi

I'm a long suffer from anxiety and depression, and I'm looking for alternatives ways to treat these diseases. I'm going to a acupunturist since January, I think it works, but take a lot of time, I don't felt relief yet. Now I want to add homeopathy remedies to my treatment.

But my question is, anyone here tried homeopathy to treat depression and anxiety?

I know that anyone has different experiences, and what works for me maybe will not work for you and vice versa, but I want you to share experiences.

Thanks
Hugs from:

Welcome to Psych Central (PC) LikaLi. Sorry you are having challenges with depression and anxiety. Have had friends treat major illnesses with homeopathy and it did not help them.

If you want to try lifestyle changes, I can talk about what I am going through as possible changes. For first aid, dealing with an emotional or mental fit, one thing I try is a breathing exercise to focus on breath instead of fighting with the thoughts.

Breathing exercise with natural breathing do not force.
If you are feeling very anxious or angry or just want to calm down, you can try a breathing exercise that takes the attention away from the trigger of anxiety to a simple tool of counting breaths.

Find a comfortable position seated or laying down. Begin to relax your breathing. Silently count 1 on the inhale, and two on the exhale. Then silently count 3 on the inhale and 4 on the exhale. Continue up to 10 or until you lose the count then return to one. No judgement. I sometimes end up at 18 then smile and return to 1. The idea is to focus on the breath and the counting and not get sucked into the anxiety or anger trigger. Also works to quiet the mind.

I have to watch what I eat because foods I eat can stabilize my moods or exaggerate them. For me protein is essential to mood stability. A high protein some naturally raise chicken or fish (mostly soy, yogurt, scrambled eggs (no flipping - i cut out some or all of yolk) low carb diet with snacks (roasted cashews, sauteed tofu) or meals every 3-4 hours will over time reduce my swings.

Other lifestyle changes that help me are doing yoga, exercises, mindfulness, calm music, and being active on Psych Central. These could raise your energy level but that may not be the problem. Some people find the forums give them the compassion and empathy they seek. http://forums.psychcentral.com

I haven't tried homeopathy. I wanted to say that I've had acupuncture treatments for anxiety before. I would get quick relief, but it would come back. Acupuncture seems to be something that you have to keep doing for quite a long time before you can cut back on the frequency of treatments.

Has your acupuncturist asked you to try any Chinese medicine remedies? The one I went to was always trying to get me to do the boil-up-the-roots-and-leaves and drink the tea thing. The only time I did it and stuck with it was when I had a horrible respiratory infection. That "tea" was disgusting, but it worked better for my respiratory infection than anything from western medicine that I've ever tried. I may have had a mild case of the flu. The tea didn't "cure" it immediately, but it made the symptoms much milder and I got over it in around three days instead of my usual two weeks.

Hello and welcome to Psych Central LikaLi!!! It's nice to meet you. You have joined a community of warm and caring members who will want to offer you support and advice. Yours is welcome as well.

Please feel free to contact any community liaison or moderator if you need help navigating the forums. It will take some time for your first five posts to appear as they are being evaluated and then you will be able to join chats.

I'm sorry for your struggles. There are many here who will be able to relate from personal experience and offer you feedback. I've tried acupuncture and homeopathy and neither helped with my bipolar symptoms. I also found the acupuncture and Chinese medicines to be quite expensive and the holistic meds did not come without side effects. Best wishes!!! I'm glad you've joined us!!!!

I look forward to seeing you around!!!

Gold advices! Thanks so much.

One thing that help me a lot is no sugar at all!

I'll try yoga class, mindfulness is not good for me now, because my mind got really crazy with meditation... Maybe later when I feel better.

Great breath exercise, I'll try this night, when I'm really panic/very anxious.

Hello, and welcome LikaLi!

I have some experience with homeopathy. A friends therapist who treats her for panic attacks recommended homeopathy before pharmaceuticals. It seemed to work for her, so I decided to try it.

I personally believe that homeopathy did nothing for me. It works for a lot of people, but after trying all kinds of homeopathic sleep aids/anxiety relief medicine, I don't think I got any relief. If I did, I had to be on a higher does than recommended. Although this is what I believe, I still take it due to insomnia. I won't take melatonin, because I worry about messing with circadian rhythms. This is when I use homeopathy, because laying in bed until 4/5 AM when you have to be up at 6 is crazy. I still don't think it does anything, because it doesn't help me sleep.

I know that this looks like a vicious circle I have written myself into, "You don't think it works, but you take it?". Well, I take it because it's an option.

Sorry I am rambling again...

I'm on a homeopatic med for depression and PTSD. So far it has greatly reduced the nightmares.
