Has anyone here tried a certain diet or made modifications to help boost their mental health?
About ten years ago, I tried a vegetarian diet. It seemed to work for a while (as in giving me some energy), and I did get to learn about preparing foods that I have never used before - but after a while, I seem to have plateaued, and I really wanted to have a hamburger - so I did, LOL. I've tried a bunch of different vitamins and minerals, detoxes, and am now trying to juice fruits and vegetables. It's too early to tell whether or not it's doing anything for me. My T said what works for her is cutting out gluten. I mean, that's fine, but I don't have celiac disease. Matter of fact, the only thing that didn't upset my stomach was toast and English muffins. Does anyone have anything that works for them? |

I try to eat in a healthy way (lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole-grain products, fish, white meat, red metal in moderation, minimal processed "food", etc). Healthy eating meets my nutritional requirements with no need for vitamin/mineral supplements, nor for "detoxes", which I am sceptical about.
This is good for my physical health and probably does my mental health no harm either.

I perk up with a good piece of protein (liver :-) or fish: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog...-mental-health
Taking my meds and vitamins the same each day and getting a bit of a schedule for sleeping and eating helps even me out.

I tried a gluten free diet a few years ago and felt (depression wise) somewhat better within a week. But it was kind of hard to stick with and I gave up on it last year. I haven't decided whether or not to try it again.

Two foods seem to help me be mentally stronger. However, me and everyone else can only eat them in moderation.
I feel great after eating eggs in the morning. I don't need more than two and often only one will do. Also, red meat does wonders for me. I feel satisfied and calm afterwards. (I try to eat only lean cuts.) Can't tell you why but it's true. I like to brown it on both sides and then saute it in a little red wine so that it's more tender and flavorful and not dry. Cooking mushrooms and onions with it adds to the flavor and complexity and nutritional quality. Must be the Neanderthal in me that finds these food so satisfying! Only wish I could have them more often. My favorite beverage going away is water, on the rocks. There's a purity to it and a feeling of cleanliness after drinking it. It is the most thirst quenching beverage there is. |
