Hi,

I am just curious if anyone has tried this treatment?

Please feel free to give any feedback, opinions, suggestions...
Thanks

If you don't know what TMS is you can read about it below:

Thanks for this!

I have, can't say it's helped, maybe it has a tad, but then again I am so long on ad's that they are working or supposed to be working too. Harmless and easy to do, effective? Nothing spectacular.
Thanks for this!

Hasn't this treatment been used with some success in the treatment of types of epilepsy? Some anti epileptic drugs such as dilantin also demonstrate anti depressive effects
This puzzles me since anti epileptic drugs do not act in the same way as SSRI drugs for example..
Why would then Ad hoc application of magneticb waves' affect the nerve synapse?

Hi,

thanks for the reply. I read online that it's not as effective as ECT , but I was curious about it since it does not have downside of memory loss, and the anesthesia that ECT does.

I had 36 sessions of TMS. It did nothing for me. But ECT did nothing as well. There are some clinical trials going on that may make rTMS more effective soon but it does help some people with a less severe type of depression than I have. It's certainly worth a try if available and doesn't have side effects.

Hi, Cloudy -

I noticed you are taking levothyroxine. Many people have limited success with it and often no success at all. Are you familiar with natural dessicated thyroid (NDT)?

I'm wondering if your thyroid/Hashi's is the root of your unresolved depression and lack of success with meds?

I did a 6 week (M-F, daily treatments) program last year about this time. I found it a bit helpful but not a cure. I guess it goes like that though: 1/3 are not helped, 1/3 are helped a bit and 1/3 can achieve remission.

I think it is worth exploring.

For the other who also had rTMS treatments - did you experience any change in anxiety levels?

Are you part of a research study, sito?
If you don't mind, could you post updates? I hope it works well for you.

I signed up as patient in for treatment. I will post results when I begin treatment. There are other people ahead of me. I will call the doctor office to get updates on my status. I have waited for a week already.

I tried TMS last year, but never finished it. I just started another round of it this week, hopefully it will work.

I had. Like almost 40 sessions., twice a week. was manic during part of the treatment but I didnt know yet that I was manic nor did I have a diagnosis except depression. I think it might have made my mania worse which could be a sign that it works. Because I had to travel more than 1 hour one way I combined it with neurofeedback for ADD and sleep. At that time I was also starting mirtazapine after paroxetine flipped me into mania/mixed state so I dont know what did what.

It is expensive at least in Holland. Has cost me about 4000 euros and not covered by my insurance.

Mx: To clean up the mess use lamotrigine, r
isperidon, mirtazapine and sertraline. Let it soak in for a while but keep a close eye on it. Meanwhile enjoy your desert of oxazepam/temazepam prn.

I thought Holland has universal health care. Does the government pay for this treatment?

I have a week left of my TMS treatment and I feel better. I don't know how long the benefits will last, but for now I'm grateful.
