I have a horse and my boyfriend has racehorses. I can really recommend nothing better for those low moments than just spending time around a horse - they are awesome, empathetic creatures. I swear sometimes they are the reason i am still around.
Thanks for this!

Sorry your mood is crappy. Love horses! Only rode twice and one kept trying to bite my ankle. Cant blame him though. I'd bite anyone riding my back too! I do for that matter!! Animals are such a comfort and a great example to us of unconditional love! I wonder what the would say if they could speak, or maybe they can and know better. Wish I had that kind of control over my big mouth

I want to go horseback riding. Haven't done it in so long.
It's a shame people can dispose of horses like they do with dogs and cats. Before I knew anyone who had horses, I didn't think this happened with horses for some reason. But both my sisters owned horses and then just basically abandoned them to the stable keepers or sold them and washed their hands clean of them. It's sad.
But they are so beautiful and big! I feel bad when they're forced to stay in their stables all day and don't get to run around like I always imagine horses like to.
I'm glad you love your horses so much. I bet you take real good care of them and love them and would never just abandon them or sell them and move on with your life. I'm sure the horses sense this about you and love you lots and lots for it.

My autistic con rides in a special group every Thursday. I am his helper, so I lead and teach him signals to give the horse. Right now he rides a big Tinker gelding called Tatoo. He even has started to say the horse's name. The horse is a big, calm and very loving horse that was "rescued " in Ireland from an abusive owner. With such a sweet disposition, I have a hard time imagining why anyone would want to raise a hand to the big love. Such a patient, calm animal, and so good to my little boy!

Horseriding is super theraputic to me. I miss my horse so much. He is a gelding named Greemer, and he is running happily in the pasture at my dad's house. I hoped to be able to bring him with me, but we only have a half acre in a residential area. Needless to say he is much happier where he is. He is so gentle and very well broken. I miss the feeling of being up high on their back. The feeling that you and the animal are one creature moving together is an awesome sensation. I love to try and relax into the horse's back as much as possible. It is a helper for my anxiety for sure.

On another note, horses are hard to take care of and expensive. If you haven't researched about them, or aren't ready for a huge commitment, then they aren't the pet for you.

Yes, I horses & am lucky enough to be owned by several. If I can figure out how, I'll add a picture of one of my Equine Therapists.

Horses anyone?

And you know how weird it is - I should have seen the warning bells when I no longer moved heaven and earth to make time to go see my horse. I've only recently been diagnosed - well, we're pretty much sure - that I suffer from Bipolar. And just really start losing interest in things that meant the world to you. I've sold my horse to the riding yard, so I do know he is in good hands and I can still ride him whenever.

The best therapy is an afternoon with my boyfriend's racehorses - just holding and touching them. I manage to just let go of everything and have tears streaming down my face. They really are therapeutic as they can mirror your emotions, when you cannot even be honest with yourself about how you feel. It is someting I am very passionate about and would really like to get involved in.

I've had 3 horses, all were ex-racehorses. And my next boy, Moscow Magic, is still racing.
Thanks for this!

I used to train horses and ride professionally. Taught people to ride. Bred. Showed. You name it I probably did it! No longer a professional, but I still have two. One is a retired race horse. The other never raced because, as the trainer said "He's slower than dirt!"

I have numerous physical problems including fibro. There are days life itself hurts. I'll still go out and climb on one of the horses and feel better. Will Rogers had it right when he said the best thing for the inside of an man is the outside of a horse!

Wish I could. Right now I'm grateful to have use of all 4 limbs & not a quad in wheelchair.

Damage from car collision damaged spine. Balance, memory, cognitive, motor all affected. One more fall could mean I don't get up.

Dr. broke news to me by asking if the name, "Christopher Reeve" rang a bell!

Have placed all of my equine family in homes that can care for them better than I can right now. Sure miss them.

I am so sorry you are not well and miss your horses. Perhaps somebody could cut a lock from their tails and bring it to you. I did that when I had to have a MRI and I was scared. Someday I am going to have the tail made into a bracelet.

I can go see them & pet them but it's just not the same as carrying the flag in the Rose Parade on New Year's Day or riding the rough stock as they buck the kinks out of their systems.

Since it hurts too much to think about what I've lost, mostly I'm focused on what I can do & I'm very grateful for the auto collision otherwise I'd probably be quadriplegic by now. Most of the time I'm happy teaching others to ride.

But once in a while, I remember how it used to be...

Standardbreds are awesome!
Smart, gentle, cooperative, tolerant, friendly, athletic, ok, so maybe they aren't the most beautiful breed in the species. They have beautiful hearts!

Thanks la doctora! He's a Thoroughbred, 5 years old. Currently resting a tendon injury, but hoping he can come back to racing in about 4 months. He has won 3 races here. He is actually quite a wide horse, which the picture does not show.

It really is good for me to hang around horses. I try visit my grey, Mozzie, every now and again, but he's 1,5 hours away on a spelling farm. When he comes back into racing, he's only about 25 mins from me. And when he retires, he's coming to me to love and cuddle - and maybe jump... :-)

By.Grace - I think you need to give us all a lesson on posting pics- thanks for sorting mine out :-)
I have a baby one too - he's nearly 5 months old and will eventually become a racehorse, all things going as planned...
Thanks for this!
