we recently adopted a two year old cat who has taken to me and only me. my husband, who gets the constant attention of our other cats, is jealous and insists that he isn't the cat's daddy.

is there any way to get felix, the cat, to warm up to my husband? we're trying treats and special attention, but felix seems immune to my husband's efforts, taking the treats but still avoiding my husband whenever there are no treats involved.

i'd really like for these two to get along. felix needs a daddy.

Was Felix previously abused by a man? If so, it will take a while for Felix to build up a level of trust. He has to see that your husband is a safe person. Patience is the name of the game and your husband can't take it personally even though it's probably pretty frustrating.

How about having your hubby rub some catnip on his clothes? I did this when I visited a friend who is very particular about who her cats do and do not like. I guess she thinks they are a good judge of character or something, anywho her cats choose her friends, and my catnip trick worked like a charm. I was a hit, and she was none the wiser. Wow, I just realized how devious that must sound!!!

Some cats seem to prefer one gender or the other. Our Tigerlily, called Tiger for short, is at least ten years old. My husband's grandmother found her as a starving almost-grown kitten, nursed her back to health, and then she came to live with hubby. She was always shy and timid, and she still hides from strangers, but when I came into the picture, she took to me right away. She appears to like me more than she likes hubby, even though she's known him so much longer. I'm her favorite person in the world. While she *lets* hubby pet her, she *asks* me to. If I stop, she'll bat at me with her front paws until I start again.

Hubby also tells me she was a bit friendlier toward his previous girlfriends than toward him, and that he thinks she simply likes women better than men. We'll never know if a man abused her or not. We only know that at one time in her life, she starved. (Now she's actually a very fat cat, even though she doesn't eat any more than the other cats in our household, who are not fat.)

I don't know, the catnip could work, but as long as Felix doesn't *dislike* your husband, it could be that he just prefers women.

lol my cat was like that with my brother, i didnt mind the cat had no dad, i dont think the cat really minds xD as long as i payed attention to em it was pretty happy :3

Over the years, we've owned several cats. When we were younger, my mom let both me and my sister get kittens. Each kitten knew exactly who they "belonged" to. While they enjoyed being around everyone in the family, they definitely preferred their person. My cat would always sleep with me at night and my sister's cat would always sleep with her. After my first cat passed away, a few years later, I got another one. He also seems to understand that he's my cat, even though we hadn't had as much time to bond because of college and whatnot. He also avoids my dad (except when me, my sister, and my mom were away on vacation for three weeks and my dad was the only one who was there to give him attention). He doesn't avoid my mom, but he doesn't spend time with her either, again, unless she's the only one around to give attention. He loves my boyfriend, though.

Basically, what i"m trying to say, is that cat's, like people, just prefer some people over others. I would try not to be insulted, but I can easily understand why one would be. I agree, your cat could have been abused by a man which could be the reason your cat avoids your husband. Or, the cat could simply like you better or believes that you are his person

The way my boyfriend won over my cat, though, was always be there to play with him when ever he wanted. Doady (my cat) slowly learned to trust my boyfriend and now enjoys cuddling and getting pets from the both of us.
