This may trigger animal lovers, sorry.

Last week we decided to have our sweet little 'diva doggie' put down after I accidently ran over her with the car.

I didn't know she had gotten loose from the hold my hubby had on her and she ran after me and the car so she could go for a ride. She loved going for a car ride. She would stand on the edge of the back seat, stretch out to the area between the front seats. She would hold her head up so proudly with her nose pointed straight ahead like a hood ornament on a big old Caddy!

She wouldn't miss a thing. She loved all the activity around her. She loved the traffic and the lights when we drove through the city. She loved the smells in the country, her head out the window, ears flying.

She could have been patched up, but we just could not afford to pay for it and the possible after care needs. As it was, having her put our of pain was already $200. I am so sad about many things connected with this accident.

She was such a sweet dog. I know she is in a better place, running - she loved being loose, with her nose to the ground, sniffing everything along the way from the Pearly Gates to God's lap! She was a hound of some sort and loved the scent! What a wonderful little friend we had for six years.

It's funny how I will automaticly start to get water for her bowl as I get myself a glass of water, out of habit. Or will think about fixing her a Milkbone loaded with peanut butter when I make myself PB and Jam on an English muffin. Or look over on the end of the couch where she used to lay with me during the daytime and watch TV together, and she's not there. Or thinking I see her on the floor behind me as I cooked dinner, hopeful that I might drop something for her.

I miss her soft tummy, always ready for a rub. Or scratching her ears. And the tricks she would do for food. She was such a smart dog. She really communticated what she wanted more than any dog we have ever had before. And our walks together.

This has been a hard week and I've been taking long daytime naps and long walks alone. She will be remembered in my heart.

Thank you all for your support and understanding. My friend IRL has 2 dogs and her sister who rents her mother-in-law apartment in her house has 2 dogs and they both said I could 'borrow' any one or all of them when ever I wanted to. Nice thought on their part.

I'm going to visit my daughter and her family starting tomorrow so I will be very busy being involved with their extremely hectice lives - but it will really help me to grieve without being alone.

Again, thank you all for being here for me to let go of my sorrow.

Love.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I accidentally ran over my kitten last year and I was traumatized. Accidents will happen despite best intents.

I am so sorry. I am not sure what to say either. I know that you are having a very hard time now but please hold on to the memories and know that warm thoughts and hugs are sent your way. I understand. My chi was killed by a car one month ago today. I still cry several times a day. If you need to talk please feel free to PM me.

So sorry. My husband ran over my dog last year, but she survived with just hip injuries. Those things happen. But she died earlier this summer from old age (96 in people years, the vet said). She was the sweetest doggie--one of those shelties like a little "Lassie." I sure still miss her.
Thanks for this!

Rainbow Bridge Poem

There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth.
It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of
meadows, hills, valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this special place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail are young again.
Those who are maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other. There is only one thing missing.
They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth.
So each day they run and play until the day comes when
one suddenly stops playing and looks up !
The nose twitches !
The ears are up !
The eyes are staring !
And this one suddenly runs from the group ! You have been seen,
and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or
her into your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again,
and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together,
never again to be separated

Thank you so very much Dreamdust. That poem is beautiful.

I know she is running her butt off in that special place, sniffing everything, playing with her other dog pals and eatting her favorite treat -peanut butter!
