I have a cat that has adopted me that I want to get rid of. I don't want 2 cats Tyger is just enough for me. I have posted her in petfinder.com and freecycle. I don't want call animal control because I don't want her put to sleep if no one takes her. She kept hanging around outside and when I would go out to smoke she would hop up in my lap or jump on my back and just purr away. Well last night it got really cold and I felt bad for her so I let her in my apartment. BIG MISTAKE!! I now keep finding myself saying Cali get down mommy doesn't want you to do.... I don't want her so shouldn't be saying mommy. She also doesn't really get along with Tyger well. They keep hissing and growling at each other.

So do you have any other ideas on what to do with her?

Jan

In this weather, I know it was a mistake to bring them in on one hand but good for you for keeping it safe. If you do decide to keep, there is an adjustment period and sometimes it can be rough, but they will settle down usually. If definitely do not want to keep, I would check to make sure that animal control isn't the only option. There might be a welfare or rescue society in the area that might be able to help out that is a 'no kill' shelter. Call the vets to see if they know of another shelter or society or person who takes in homeless critters.

Some cats have microchips in them. You could take her to a vet that has a scanner to be checked which could help track down the owner. Could call the vets to see if the have a client matching that description.

Since she may not have been abandoned and may still belong to someone who is irresponsible, if you can, flyers might help track down the owner as well as the postings you have made.

If no response, then ask around too if anyone is wanting a new friend in their lives.

Beyond that I'm not sure what else you can do. However, good for you for bringing them in out of the cold even if it does turn out to be a less than desirable situation. If it were here, they would not survive for long in our weather. Best of luck in either finding the owner or finding placement!!
Thanks for this!

i hope you find enough love to keep a furry person who is so willing to pay you back with interest!! yes ,, your other cat will adjust better, if you segregate the newcomer for about 5 days,, where he can smell her, but she can't look at him.... it's an old cat trick~ Best Wishes,, Gus

There may be some 'no kill' shelters for stray cats in your area.
And some cats can adjust to a new roomate, it takes time.
Thanks for this!

I used to live in an area with a lot of strays. Many of which I could not take in for various reasons... I got a small used dog house, a cat bed heater and a heated water bowl and make sure there was food out. You never knew who would come by for a few hours to warm up and take a nap... had a few fights as well... but all and all it worked.

Omers, what a great idea to help out strays you couldn't take in!

Jbug, I wish we didn't live half a country apart. I would adopt her from you. Others gave good suggestions about what to do to find her a new home, but the fact you named her sounds to me like you've decided at some level to keep her.
Thanks for this!

I have found a home for her. I posted on Freecycle and got a hit. The lady lives not to far from me on 5 acres of land. So Cali will have lots of land to roam on. The lady said she has one other cat so she will have a friend. I am glad she is going to a good home.

She will be picked up later today.
