I lost my Springer today in the wee hours of the morning. He was battling Cushing's and went into an Addison's crisis over the weekend, spent it at the emergency vet. He perked up, came out of there trotting, get me the heck home. I was thrilled but by yesterday he was moaning again and was still pretty weak overall. He went in his sleep thankfully. The puppy curled up to him whenever she saw him; she knew and this morning she just laid there by him.

On one hand I am SO sad to lose the sweetest, most happy go lucky, and laid back individual I have ever known. He has brought so much to my life, more than I can say. On the other hand I am much relieved truly that he is no longer suffering in his body as it had became a prison and battle for him.

May he play with his tennis ball, eat to his hearts content, and have all the wonderful romps in the woods and swims in the river that he used to enjoy again.

P.S. His picture is on my profile in a photo album if want a face to this wonderful critter.
Thanks for this!

I have had to keep her away from him because her energy is overwhelming and she doesn't know proper boundaries yet. He was so patient but would growl when it was too much yet would never bite but should have. Sometimes she would back off but not always, so it was easier to keep them apart to give him space and rest. Last night though, she stayed upstairs but kept whining to come down. I should have realized something was wrong other than not wanting to be alone, even though I kept going up to be with her too. She normally passes out at night, sound asleep but was antsy; she made me stressed to pay attention to ALL the possible reasons, it never occurred to me he was dying. Hindsight, she knew.

((((( Fresia )))))

so sorry to hear the news...dogs have an incredible way of winding their way around our hearts, not to mention our pinkies...and it sounds like he was one in a million for you...I am glad he is out of pain and playing and frolicking like a pup again...digging up flowers and chasing cats...and I am glad that you have a pup around the house...it is never the same, but the pup can help with the transition...

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my beautiful dog Chloe a few months ago and I'm still trying to cope but the pain is getting better with time. In your case it is especially difficult because you knew he was suffering but still wanted him here with you. I have lost my father and my best friend in the last couple of years and with the loss of Chloe i am still trying to cope BUT i find that talking to people about them is helping. Most people are afraid to approach to subject with us and so you can bring up the topic and most people are happy to hear you talk about your grief.

I am so sorry for your loss. My dear dog Jack died last year of Kidney failure. He was the closest animal to a person I have ever seen. I still miss him everyday and expect him to be there. It just gets easier and I believe that someday we will be able to be with our pets again.

Oh I'm sorry, I didn't think of this. The heart was for the love that I feel for him and that I know he is better off. It was so devastating the toll the Cushing's took on him. Some Cushinoid dogs never need treatment but those that do meet with mixed success in treating it. It ravaged him. I miss him terribly and his beautiful spirit but he is not suffering anymore.

Thank you for Bmee2 and everyone's kind words, they mean more than I can say.

Someone just sent this to me, and said it could be shared..... not sure who it is by though:

Your Pets In Heaven

To have loved and then said farewell, is better than to have never loved at all.
For all of the times that you have stooped and touched my head, fed me my favorite treat and returned the love that I so unconditionally gave to you.
For the care that you gave to me so unselfishly.
For all of these things I am grateful and thankful.
I ask that you not grieve for the loss, but rejoice in the fact that we lived, loved and touched each others lives. My life was fuller because you were there, not as a master/owner, but as my FRIEND.
Today I am as I was in my youth. The grass is always green, butterflies flit among the flowers and the Sun shines gently down upon all of God's creatures.
I can run, jump, play and do all of the things that I did in my youth. There is no sickness, no aching joints and no regrets and no aging.
We await the arrival of our lifelong companions and know that togetherness is forever.
You live in our hearts as we do in yours. Companions such as you are so rare and unique.
Don't hold the love that you have within yourself. Give it to another like me and then I will live forever. For love never really dies, and you are loved and missed as surely as we are.
Thanks for this!

My Springer is in a better placeRainbow Bridge My Springer is in a better place

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
