My plans today: Eat lunch. Take my Russian Tortoises to the park. Come home and clean. Cook dinner.

I made it as far as taking my tortoises to the park. I get half way home, outside of a bar. Have my tortoises in the cat carrier. A lady comes out. She wants to know if I caught the kitten. I told her that I had my pets in the carrier. She informs me that there is an orange kitten running around. They cannot find the mother. His sister has been caught already. She wants to know if I will catch him and take him home (she knows I have cats as she works at a grocery store I frequent). I agree to catching him, after I take my tortoises home. I said that if I catch him, I'll take him to the no-kill shelter.

I get back to the bar. Two cans of food. The kitten is not interested. Cannot get access to the property where it is. Owned by a biker club. The kitten is hiding under a tire. I notice that the salon in the back has a door leading to the back yard. I ask the owner if I could go through her back door. She is worried I'm going to hurt the kitten. I tell her my plans. She allows me to.

There is a 10 inch gap between the bar and the biker's club house. The kitten sees me and makes a bolt for that gap (which is what I did NOT want him to do). The lady from the bar blocks the gap at the front. I try to coax the kitten out. No luck. As much as I hate tight spaces (and I mean I HATE tight spaces), I managed to get in there. We notice that the kitten does not see the other people at the other end of the building. So, I keep moving down towards them. The kitten stays about 2 feet away from me. Half way through, I discover his mother's body after accidentally stepping on it (and it STINKS). About five minutes after trying to get through between the two buildings, the kitten is caught and I emerge out the other side.

Everyone in the bar is cheering. The ladies at the salon are cheering. This tiny kitten is turning out to be a lover. Very cuddly. Drove him to the no kill shelter. The ladies there think he will be adopted right away. He's about 9 weeks old. An orange tabby. Very friendly. Nothing but a fluffy ball of orange fur who likes to cuddle. Brightest most golden eyes you can imagine. I'm just happy that I had a couple of people who were able to help me catch him. He deserves a fighting chance.

Besides being a bit thin and dehydrated, he looks healthy. As for me, I skinned up my knee and the palms of my hands feel raw. While making my way between the buildings, I had to scale the wall a few times where the buildings settled. I almost got stuck a few times. Now if I can get rid of the creepy crawly feelings...

Well, your banged up and scaped a bit but you probably saved a precious life. And those creepy crawling feelings will disappear. It sounds like you had a more productive day than you expected. But that is life, we never know when a little cute orange ball of fur will present itself. You just proved you are worthy of the task.

Congrats,

Open Eyes

Thanks! I have no clue. I think one of the regulars at the bar.

Yeah, when my soon-to-be-husband (7 more days) came home and asked why the dishes weren't done, boy did I have a story to tell... He was surprised I did not bring the kitten home (as much as I wanted to, 5 pets in a 2 bedroom apartment is more than enough).

Anyways, that fluffy orange furball has a new lease on life. Hopefully he finds a forever home very soon. He's too cute and too friendly not to be adopted.
