Are you keeping them all? I've never heard of that breed. Are they a sporting dog?

ok , first they are chocolate not black , patterdale is a yorkshire village in england, they developed this dog for going to ground to kill fox an badger on farmers land, they used breeds like lakeland terrier , fell terrier an even staffordshire , to produce the best small hunting dog with inpecable love an affection to there masters an children. I have 2breeding *****,s i is black an the othere chocolate, but these pups actually came out of the black ***** an a black dog. you can get tan coulor . But ther main thing they should have is i white spot on there chest, you get rough coats an smooth , 3 are rough in the pic an 1 smooth though they all look smooth.MY pups go to the forestry commision has vermin control an ride in the landrover with there ranger. I do sell as pets as there love for children is well known, they would die for the owner an love nothing more than to be at you side night an day, my 2 sleep at the bottom of my bed.
Thanks for this!

Precious pups. Thanks for sharing Sewerrats. Are you keeping any of them?

Friends, who lived outside of London, had three Patterdale's and they were so loyal, friendly, fun, and so good with the family and kids. I loved visiting them. I was not into hunting but he would tell tales of their endeavors, like a lot of great terriers, in flushing things out (it's all he would allow them to do) but they seemed lower key than a lot of terriers, not so frenetic which I really appreciated. Then again, they were well exercised going on runs in the fields several times a day but perhaps it is just there nature too. I've not seen them here in the States, but they were such a joy to be around.

You may not like this but there tail are docked, You do it when there 3 days old an they dont cry in pain ,its soft tissue at that age. The reason for the docking is when in battle with vermin on farms an forestry land, the first thing that a fox will do is bit there tail, you leave enough of the tail to grab when they get themself stuck in a tight space like a fox hole. Dont forget they are not a pedigree, but were bred from different terrier,s to make a super terrier. Mine only hunt rats an small vermin, but its bred in them to hunt, even as pets they are always on the look out.

I may have worded that wrong, the ranger didnt die, an the dog was killed in a fox hole that collasped , he was dead when the ranger dug him out.

They are quite cute. I've never heard of them (and am honestly not a giant terrier fan) but always love hearing of people breeding dogs for a purpose rather than looks or pedigree. How often do your pups tend to work out for vermin control? How did you choose your breeding stock and know they were truly going to pass on the qualities you were hoping for? Any specific way you paired them up? (I find selective breeding, especially for a purpose, fascinating.)

Well all pattedale pup,s will work , just some better than other,s , my 2 *****,s dont really now , as i had another breakdown a while back , an my wife took to takeing them for there exercise, after takeing them on the local park for a run, the squirrel population when into rapid decline as my 2 dog,s did what they were bred for. Patterdales can jump to great hights for a small dog an grey squirrel,s thinking they made safety 6ft on the truck of tree,s get a rude surprize.Believe this or not but one of my dogs can a does scramble up conifer tree,s.but she is not to cool getting down. They would leave my wife an go on trips an be lost in minutes, they would make there own way home ,or the dog warden would bring them back. So now there strapped to 10ft lead,s when out with her., With me they do as there told. Breeding is a matter of finding a dog you like an its temprement an work record. In england you can find a good breeding dog easy enough. There is a patterdale following in america has hunter,s found out about the reputation an imported breeding stock. The *****s when a big fox or badger goes to ground are sometimes made to wait at the den entrace an you send in the bigger dog, the dog and fox meet face to face underground, so the bigger jawed dog is used . They can an do get head an face injuries , an make no noise when stitched up by the owner,s with fishing line, they are death before dishonour dog,s. ps dyslexic spelling sorry.
