Are you keeping them all? I've never heard of that breed. Are they a sporting dog?

Beautiful. Shiny, glossy black puppies. I would also like to hear more about the breed!

Precious pups. Thanks for sharing Sewerrats. Are you keeping any of them?
Friends, who lived outside of London, had three Patterdale's and they were so loyal, friendly, fun, and so good with the family and kids. I loved visiting them. I was not into hunting but he would tell tales of their endeavors, like a lot of great terriers, in flushing things out (it's all he would allow them to do) but they seemed lower key than a lot of terriers, not so frenetic which I really appreciated. Then again, they were well exercised going on runs in the fields several times a day but perhaps it is just there nature too. I've not seen them here in the States, but they were such a joy to be around.

You may not like this but there tail are docked, You do it when there 3 days old an they dont cry in pain ,its soft tissue at that age. The reason for the docking is when in battle with vermin on farms an forestry land, the first thing that a fox will do is bit there tail, you leave enough of the tail to grab when they get themself stuck in a tight space like a fox hole. Dont forget they are not a pedigree, but were bred from different terrier,s to make a super terrier. Mine only hunt rats an small vermin, but its bred in them to hunt, even as pets they are always on the look out.

They are quite cute. I've never heard of them (and am honestly not a giant terrier fan) but always love hearing of people breeding dogs for a purpose rather than looks or pedigree. How often do your pups tend to work out for vermin control? How did you choose your breeding stock and know they were truly going to pass on the qualities you were hoping for? Any specific way you paired them up? (I find selective breeding, especially for a purpose, fascinating.)
