My dogs get kibble for their main meal, but they nearly always get "people" food as well. I just consider it all food - some of it is commercially prepared (kibble) and some of it I prepare. I will add in yogurt or pumpkin to their food if they are having tummy troubles. I use bits of meat or cheese for training treats. For a special treat, the dogs will often get raw beef ribs. If my eggs are about to expire and I haven't used them up, the dogs will each get a raw egg to eat.
I actually feed quite a bit of raw foods to my dogs - veggies, fruit, meat, cheese, eggs, etc. They do not get bread or sweets or anything unhealthy for them. Of course, my dogs are also athletes, and occasionally need supplemental fat or protein just to maintain weight, and the eggs are great for their coat as well. I know there are lists out there that say you shouldn't feed dogs diary or raw foods....dairy is mainly because adult dogs are lactose intolerant, so you just have to be careful. Raw foods...well, that's always a debate. The way I look at it, it's a biologically appropriate way to feed. If my dog were in the wild, he certainly wouldn't be getting cooked food. He'd be eating what he could scavenge - eggs, small rodents (mice, bunnies), etc. The thing you have to be careful with when feeding something other than commercial canine diets is that the dog is getting the proper nutrition in the proper quantities. Dogs, just like people, should eat a healthy diet, in whatever form that may be. I have a 6 month old puppy also...she's especially fond of string cheese and cooked beef for training treats!

I don't feed my dog people food, but other members of my family do. So when we're at holidays or family get-togethers, it's a special occasion for her too!
