Today I rescued a dog that was chained to a post up on top of one of the mountains that I live in between. It's an absolutely beautiful puppy. Someone left it chained up there.

I have to decide if I am going to keep it or send it to the shelter. I already have two wonderful dogs. My dogs are female. I have a Sheltie and a Beagle.

I do not know what kind of dog the puppy I rescued today is. He is male, blonde, short haired, very soft fur, loving as all get out, and not yet house broken.

I am already working on the house training. I have called my vet and made an appointment just in case I keep him.

I am so torn. 3 dogs means I can't travel as freely I do now with only two. But I just can't see myself risking him ending up homeless at a shelter. He is already following simple commands. Just in the few hours I have been working with him. So, he is smart and willing to work.

What say you animal lovers? I have not named him yet. it's my only hold out right now.

this is so hard for me. He is just adorable. I crate train and because of that I have a ton of crates in various sizes so I had one for him. Just had to make it up and put him in it. I gave him a pillow and blankie all his own.

Help. Can you tell I am falling for him??????

Oh, no. No attachment stuff going on here.
Crate. Pillow. Working with him ... Nope, not a bit of bonding, either.

Do try to hold off a tad tho till the vet check. Just ... well, just in case.

get him vetted, get him settled & see if there is an all breed rescue in your area & offer to foster...then if you decide he doesn't work out you have an out.

either way..thank you. you saved a life. you are a rescuer. & you done good. karma my friend.

stumpy.
2 of my own & 1 long term foster...she came as a foster who was a mess..i healed her & she was moved & adopted & mistreat5ed...& then she came "home"..where she is still today...brain tumor & all..& where she will stay until she is called home.

3 is hard, but you get used to it..you are right not as manageable as 2 but it gets easy after a while...sometimes tho...dogs adopt us & i believe those are the ones that are sent to use with a purpose & a meaning.

what's the names of the mountains? perhaps one of them would make a good name???
Thanks for this!

Roadrunnerbeepbeep... No, No bonding going on at all....

No caring, no sharing. I didn't even make a special trip to the grocery tonight to get puppy food for him. I think I am certifiable in a good way.

Kindachaotic i Hear ya!

Stumpy... I bless ya for your care of your foster care who is now permanent. My moxie has cancer, I found out a month after I got her and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The foster Idea is a good one though. I'll look into it. Buys me some time. Don't know though. I do believe that idea of animals adopting us.

Oh, and now you have helped me pick a name when I was trying not to. the mountain name is Sassafras Ridge. Sassafras Shortened to Sassy is a possibility. I have to check out more of his personality first.

I'm curious to hear any more ideas anyone has.

Good work rescuing the poor little thing. I hate to think what would have happened had you not noticed.

We named our dog 'Thursday' after the day we found her - just an idea.

thanks for all your support and input. I have named him Star and have decided to keep him. I can't take a pic because my partner has the camera and is two hours away.

Very Annoying !

I ordered his new collar and leash today. As well as a collar for my other dog. I found one in her size that I liked much better than the one she has now.

I am keeping him crated at night and when I am not home, and I put up a pen in my dining room for him to have extra space when I am home for him to play in and stretch out in during the day.

Right now he is whining like crazy. Ah the joys of new puppy hood.

Oh well, what's a little sleep loss.

I named him star because I believe he will be a star in my life and his own as he learns and grows. It is obvious the more I work with him that he was mistreated so I am going slowly and gently.

I can't wait to get to the vet and find out what he is. the minute I get the camera back I will take a pic and post it.

I'll keep you all updated.

Stumpy Are you referring to me.

Well, to give you the benefit of the doubt cause I do respect your opinions, I will explain our situation here.

My four lady canines are all spayed, short haired, are around 10 pounds each, are chih-terrier mixes, they are all rescues. We live in a house with finced in backyard about a quarter acre size. They have a doggie door with flap that's built into the wall that leads on to a covered patio to go out & do their business. They are all house trained. All up to date at Vet with monthly heart worm rx & get their theeth cleaned when needed. My husband squeezes/relieves their **** glands here, the Vet taught us how, husband keeps their nails cut. They sleep with us (king size bed) or on couch, their choice. I don't/can't work, am here most all the time, so they aren't left alone. I get around fine & still drive if there's an emergency with one of them. They eat dry dogfood out of same bowl, no fighting, except oldest one, 14yrs, has no teeth so she gets canned food. If I have left anything out I'll post later.

So... I think they have it pretty good here & we love them dearly. We don't consider them to be a hassle or we wouldn't have four, to each their own. I understand people live in apts, condos, that dogs always have to be on leashes when taken outside & that would be hard. We feel really blessed to be in a situation where our dogs can go in & out on their own.

Just wanted to put it out there that having four dogs in the right environment is a wonderful thing. They keep me sane.

Enjoy your animals everyone!!!

Congrats on new puppy. You saved him from a miserable life!
The crying/whining will get better & after getting adult teeth in they seem to really develop their personality, and chew way less!
Anyway, he picked you, so enjoy the ride.

Thank you. Well I was way wrong on his age. He is 1 1/2 to 2 years old. But the vet said he acts so much like a puppy I could be forgiven for being so far off.

The Vet gave him a clean bill of health and his shots and rabies shot and He's all ready to go. I will be taking him to be neutered in 3 weeks.

Star is a real trooper. I am so happy to have him. He gets along well with my other two and now I don't have to keep them apart all the time.

I do have to house train him though. We all decided that he was an outside dog.

That's the update. Wanted you and everybody who's following this to know.

Oh, yes. The Vet said Star is part Lab and something else. He is 18" high at the shoulder and 22" high at the top of his head. Light tan to blonde in color. I might just get me a cheap camera so I can get a pic for everybody.
