Little Feather, 10 year old dachshund female, I adopted from a rescue facility about 3 months ago. She is so loving and sweet. She was too fat when I got her, and still too fat. She looks like a mole with small head and short paws, and big fat body. I'm trying to limit her food, and per the vet's instructions, giving her now "senior" formula dogfood, which she doesn't care for. Here is her pic!

I should add, Feather was used for breeding, poor thing. Such a sweet little dog.

she's very pretty...try adding in green beans (canned are ok but use low salt or no salt added) or fresh carrots, any veggies...just remember to subtract some of the dry kibble from what you feed her..

a little walking or exercise will help her too..chances are her muslce tone is very weak so check with your vet first...mill dogs are known for having really poor tone...but if she gets the ok..you can start introducing her to walks, parks & such...that will help her own tons.

watch the treats..any kind of biscuit you give her will more than likely have tons of calories...again subtract that from her diet...

have her vet checked for thyroid as well...which could also be a source of weight.

try different brands of sr food...you don't have to stick to the same brand..just make sure it is a good brand...one that provides great nutrition...dogs just like people have different tastes. some like chicken, others beef...etc. buy a top quality brand..not crap. crap brands will put weight on not take it off...if in doubt ask someone at the store where . you purchase your food...rule of thumb is anything you buy at a grocery store= crap. ask the rescue. ask your vet. you can do better than science diet. much better.

she is still young...with much life in front of her...good luck & thanks for rescuing ...
