- you "steady" the car so it doesn't spook at a plastic bag blowing down the road

- you buy carrots and apples in bulk

- you're feed bill is greater than your grocery bill

- you'd rather clean stalls than the house

- you schedule social events around the horse show schedule

- the only time you wear anything other than jeans or breeches is the annual horseshow award banquet

- you can quote your horse's pedigree for ten generations but don't know your own great-grandparents' names

anyone have any they'd like to contribute?
Thanks for this!

Your e-mail address is named after a horse who won the Kentucky Derby 20 years ago

You watch all the pre-race and post-race coverage of the Triple Crown races

You know all the different varieties of horses and all the names for the different colors/patterns

(These ideas come from a friend of mine, who does these things!)

it's not that different for a dog person..only on a smaller scale & no shoes.(for the dogs) ..trust me...people talk about this all the time...

& the conversations you have about poop, birthing babies, urine, injuries, pukeage, etc...in all the wrong places, over meals...non-dog people so turn green & leave.

What about those booties they make for dogs to keep their feet dry?

And oh yeah - horse people talk about all that body function stuff too.

I even manage to drive my other half insane with all my horse banter.
I really do wear 1 pair of sneakers until they are falling apart.
I enjoy shopping for anything for my horses, and already have 2 of everything. But personally, i only buy myself something if I really NEED it

My other half and I have a whole new language - we attribute racing terminology to everything in the normal world. Except no-one else really understands, lol

Glad you're not mad at me! By the way, I just noticed that "aggressive" is spelled incorrectly. My goodness.

Back to horse people,

if you pay more to board your horse than you do yourself.

if your favorite smell is "eau de horse barn."

if you buy horsey type items for all the kids on your Christmas list.

if the word "horse" in a movie title means you are going to be buying tickets to see it soon. (My friend has already announced that she and I will be going to see "War Horse." )

... that pine fresh scent in your car isn't from an air freshener, but from the bale of wood shavings in the boot.

... your car is also full of bits of hay, mud and horsehair off your farm clothes - try as you might to avoid this happening.

... you always seem to have a bit of hay or straw stuck in one of your socks.

... you know most people from the stables by which horse they own rather than their actual name.

... you know more about equine nutrition than you do about your own dietry needs.

... you watch the weather solely so you can decide whether to 'rug up' or not.

your house is filled with horse bric a bric---statues, lamps, rugs, blankets, pictures, etc.

Note: I had a friend who bought a horse but didn't want her parents to know, because she was working at a mental-health clinic and wasn't making a lot of money. She did have to also spend oodles boarding it. At any rate, she had pictures of the horse around her apartment. When she knew she parents were coming to visit, she would hide the horse pictures and replace them with pictures of dear old mom and dad. I thought that was a hoot--or a whinny?
