My 16 year old eskie (mommy Destiny) is in having the rest of her teeth pulled today at the vet......I am so nervous about her age & the anesthesia.

I have seen what happens with younger critters & the anesthesia. This cooler (or should I say colder) weather is making her limp worse. Giving her Rimadyl.....sometimes split it & give 1/2 morning & 1/2 night.....sometimes when the limp is bad, I give her the whole pill.

Disolve in water then mix a couple of spoons of her food into a small bowl until the med's are gone then mush up the rest of her wet dry food.

Her heart meds are working for keeping the fluid down....still the heart murmur......but she's been doing good...I just worry at this age & having surgery.......It's tough being a mommy to older pets.

She got her bath last week at the vet....took her to be groomed, but she got so nervous with the grooming that they thought she would have a heart attack.....but she ended up with several baths because the nervousness made her poop loose & what a mess I guess.....said they bathed her 3 times....but no grooming....something I do a little at a time here at home.

Will feel a lot better hopefully when she's home safe this evening

Destiny is my mommy american eskimo dog.....the mother of all the litters we had. She is very special to me (as are all my babies).....but she was my birthday gift to myself back in 1996, my 2nd puppy & the mate for Excell who was my first dog the year before.......she was a Christmas puppy herself born on December 18, 1995.....& she had many Christmas litters. The first match I showed her in, she won best of match & $25.......that however was the extent of her success in showing.

She is a bit more independent than my other eskies probably because she cared for so many of her litters & has been such a good mommy eskie......never lost one of her puppies over all those years. Have to kind of chuckle at her because even though she never had a litter of more than 4 puppies, she ended up with the pregnant dog waddle & even the front bow legs which is probably why she has a harder time getting around on with her sore back leg

I had her spayed 7 years ago right after JoGI's supprise litter. She is too special to mistreat by continually breeding her.....we only bred her every 2 years also because it's too hard on them otherwise. Have some of the cutest pictures of her with her puppies........Leo, my soul mate eskie was one of her pupppies from her 4th litter.....he is definitely a clown. Each eskie has their own distinct personalities that I absolutely LOVE......definitely hooked on the american eskimo breed.

Thank you....yes, siberian huskies are gorgeous dogs. They are protective like the eskies.....but they are quit a bit larger in size so they have some weight behind their protective growls.

Destiny came through her surgery well.....they only had 3 teeth she had left to pull......& the sore on the side of her head they removed as it was a source of infection......so glad I had the teeth done as it allowed them to take care of the other issues. She's home & was wandering around sort of trying to figure out where she was.....but the other 3 dogs wouldn't leave her alone to get settled......grrrrrr.....Leo thinks everything is about him & all the attention he requires.....had to push him away & block him away from here until she got settled......they cleaned her ears & got her nails trimmed more than I did while she was out........I know she's going to feel a lot better now that all the source of infections are gone.......we can just keep her as healthy as possible & give her the pain medication so her back leg isn't too sore to walk on. She really does eat well & I have a huge container of water that is constantly available to all the dogs upstairs....it's so huge, it's almost too heavy for me to carry when filled completely.

She survived the anesthetic which was what I was mostly worried about. The receptionist at the vet says that she has a 13 year old dog that she has been postponing bring in for that very same reason.....worried that the her dog might not make it through the anesthetic. If I hadn't seen first hand that the anesthetic can stop the heart of even a healthy cat when it went in to be neutered, I don't think I would really know as personally what can happen, but in highschool, I went with my friend to the biology club meeting at a vet's office to observe the neutering of a cat & when they applied the anesthetic, it's heart stopped......they revived it, but it made me realize just how sensitive animals can be & then realized it even more as they get older.

Learned even more about being under anesthesia after several operations of my own & how hard it is to come out of it at times.......so obviously.....I have been worried since I knew about her needing the surgery a couple of weeks ago........

But all is well & she is resting well....even had a little sip of water & it stayed down.......I have my Destiny Dreamer for a little while longer now.......getting the best care I can give her while the other dogs bounce around & make life a bit hectic for her at times especially when Celia decided that Destiny is eating out of her dish even though I had just placed her in front of HER FOOD.....the growling match begins & then I have to do my magic distracting act again & again.

Who says having 5 dogs is any different than having 5 children????? Can't reason with them any better than children...lol. But the unconditional love is worth it all the way.

Eskie, glad she's home and doing OK. Could you crate her to give her some peace from the other dogs?

Go figure....with all my dogs, I don't have a crate that Leo hasn't destroyed trying to get out of when I was volunteering at the horse park....needless to say, I don't crate anyone.

She is settled well on one of her nice puppy beds & after she got home & everyone got enough of her different smell from the vet.....they have decided that it's still the same Destiny & have all picked their own places to settle down it also.

Animal behavior is so interesting to watch......guess not all that much different than people.....when someone comes home that's been away for something.......we all have to hang around when they first get home to hear all the news.....maybe no conversations between the dogs....just a lot of sniffing.....their way of communicating.

All is calm, all is quiet & she's resting well now.
