I am looking at purchasing an amoeba or other single-cell organism.
But there isn't a lot of information out there.

How much should I pay and what kind of care would I need to provide?

Regards,

IT.

Sorry, I am clueless. Maybe you could find out by calling a biology department at a college or university or even try to contact a biology teacher at a high school.

Sperm is considered a single-cell, right?

Maybe you should start a sperm-farm and try to grow them into tadpoles. If you keep them alive long enough they turn into sperm frogs.
Thanks for this!

Never done it they grow them to feed larval stage zebrafish so any university with zebrafish work might be able to help you out. The above link looks to be oriented toward science teachers or other more homespun growers. By far the easiest source for single celled organisms is pond water if you just want to play around.

I got those seahorses one time & grew them in a jar of water....not exactly single cell.....but then single cell, you would need a microscope to actually see them

I wasn't trying to be rude but sarcastic, because I didn't think it was possible to grow your own amoeba, so I apologize.
Thanks for this!

DrSkipper.....I actually got a chuckle out of your reply.....

most of Illegal Toilet's pet posts leave the door wide open for replies such as yours & reading the replies is 1/2 the fun of them IMO from past experiences.

That's why I apologized, because you never know if he is joking or being serious.

I was taking him seriously when he asked about a pet amoeba. Hey, Toilet, are you pulling our collective legs?

Lol. Generally, when my colony of single cell organisms gets crowded, I have to wash them away...

i purchased a grain of sand for my amoeba as a house/mansion and drilled some holes into it so he can have a few bedrooms. He seems to appreciate it, although it's hard to tell.

Lets hope the amoeba gets along with the spider on a leash and the chicken that came instead of a fast food chicken sandwich.

I think repetitive amoeba stamps could make a lovely piece of fabric done on muslin. Thanks for the idea.
Oh, it would be good to have one or more to observe...I bet they are quite intelligent, in their quiet way---and they can go Anywhere...
What type do you have and what do you feed it? Have you named your amoeba?
(or has it told you?) I had a snail for a while...rather nice...

I can't remember my biology. Do you have to have an amoeba spayed or neutered?

Most amoeba are asexual
also shapeless... don't know if that's related to the asexuality

No parts to remove to spay/nueter Payne. They reproduce by spliting in half.

Actually, I knew about how they reproduce. I was trying to be silly. (Gee, usually I have no problem with that! )
