I think I'll say, "Well, you folks saw the cat first!" :O. He said he'd seen it down the street before it came where we are.

Yes, I know the joint custody is not going to work too well. But I gathered he didn't want me to take the cat away. (I didn't say anything, but this kitty sure looks a lot like an adult cat he has....)

My cat Edword, came from someone that didn't care for the cat. We got him on 1/9/2013. We made him play again! He is ten. Mostly black and a little white on the paws and chest.

I don't care if this cat may be related to one he has. If it's wounded and he didn't take care of it and it's his, that's neglect. So if you take the cat in or trap it, and he says "You can't do that!" just patiently tell him the SPCA would just LOVE to know how "his" cat recieved a wound and had to live outside while recovering, and all without vet care. Or better yet, smile and just say "Vet bill"...

I've been where you are. IA thin, flea and tick infested 2 1/2 old kitten showed up on my porch that a kid across the street said belonged to his family. But when I spoke with the head of the local SPCA, she said to me the same thing I said to you. "Take him and don't you break a sweat". Vet bills are the best way to prove ownership of an animal if it lives outside, or proof you took the cat to get help.

That said, if you do decide to adopt him, I wouldn't keep him an outside cat, not if you think your neighbor might make him "disappear" on you. That's a lot of money down the tubes for you at that point.

Have you decided what you plan to do?

The neighbor didn't come right out and say, "Don't take the cat away," but he indicated we could just keep feeding it--and see what happens.

I saw it in the bushes at our house yesterday, but didn't get out to see about it. (I had a medical procedure and was all doped up.)

I will check on it today to see if it is in our yard or maybe in the neighbor's yard.

I got the idea from the neighbor that he thought it had been dropped. The cat they have is well taken care of.

Right now, I have so many issues to deal with. But I know that cat needs to be tended to and decisions made.

Our cat is an indoor/outdoor cat--mainly outdoor. But she doesn't seem to roam much. In fact, I asked the neighbor, and he said he had never seen her in his yard.

No, I certainly don't need kittens to deal with, too, if the little one turns out to be female.

I have had some success in socializing feral cats. It just take an enormous amount of patience. I'm not an expert by any means but here is what I've done and it worked for me. Start by placing food and water for the kitty in a sheltered area and try to keep an eye on it. When kitty comes around make sure kitty can see you and try to move closer and closer to him without scaring him off. Keep your movements slow and easy. Eventually he will tolerate your presence and might even let you pet his head. Don't try to pet his hindquarters, they don't much care for that.
As he becomes accustomed to you he will let you pick him up. I'd just be really careful because if they feel afraid they cant really scratch you up. If you set out fresh food and water regularly, He will make this his new home. As for the eye, cats heal incredibly well. If, after you are able to handle him, you are still concerned just take him to the vet for evaluation and treatment. Hope this helps and I wish you and kitty the best of luck.

Dear Payne,
We have all beeen following up on this kitten, maybe its time to give it a name? If you dont know the gender, make the name neutral.
The best conflict with a neighbor is no conflict.
I hope you are healing.
Happie

I saw Koko (name gotten from cat books by Lillian Jackson Braun) yesterday. Koko was sitting atop a container near our pump house, across the yard. Koko was looking healthier, perkier. I think I'll put some dry food out. We are getting so much rain lately, though, that I need to find something to shelter the food under.

If I get a chance soon, then I'll consult my neighbor again.

Payne, my bank has some cats that hang around outside. The bank folks propped up a big plastic storage box with sticks to give the cats and food protection from the weather. Maybe you could do something similar?

Hi Payne. Do you have a shed or something in your garden? If so leave the door ajar, being careful there are no chemicals or things that could fall on him/her. I deally with shelving so kitty can sit up high and feel more secure especially if another were to put nose in door. Its great u r helping and doing what u can. If u but dry food please hydrate with boiled water, half the amt of liquid u would put on your cereal. My cat was abandoned and luckily 4 kind neighbours watched over him until he decided he wanted to live with me. Though fed he was in poor condition, sleeping rough with no shelter is very stressful as u can imagine. Another lost cat in my area (reuinited) was given shelter in a shed and fed by an elderly couple. He was in much better condition.

I am putting water out, too.

Now my son tells me there is more than one whitish cat in the neighborhood. I'm wondering if I am seeing the right one, when I look from afar!

I got some dry kitten food to put out for Koko today. The kitty seems to appear, when I do see it, in about the same place in the woods each time.
Thanks for this!

What would be the best thing to do?
I have never been a cat owner before, but I think the best advice I can give is that if that cat were to come back I would take it to a vet.

Sounds like you're doing great. Now if one of you can catch the kitty and have it fixed
I am inundated... there is a black cat who tries to come in the back yard. Okay actually there are two which I wouldn't have know if I hadn't seen them together last night. And they do come in the back yard... or at least one does lol. They steal my lodger kitties food :O The regular lodgers have been fixed and cat food isn't that expensive but I have reached my limit of financial ability. Time to call my rich friend and see if she wants to get back in the cat fixing game.
Good luck with yours.
Thanks for this!
