After all my concerned/upset posts about Callie's cancer diagnosis I thought I'd update everyone.
She's doing well. She's as active as can be expected for a 16 year old cat. She's eating well. She looks like she putting on weight. I don't have a scale sensitive enough to measure any changes in her weight, but she's now just thin looking instead of looking like a cat skeleton with skin stretched over it. She not so cranky with the other cats. She'd reached a point that she'd hiss at them if they came anywhere near her. She's still not happy about the antics of the younger two at times, but she doesn't just sit and hiss anymore. I attribute her displeasure with the younger two more to difference in ages than her health. Silly behavior of youngsters can wear on the elderly of any species. She actually cuddles with Boomer sometimes. Boomer is middleaged. She's really been enjoying having me home on vacation. She's a cuddler to begin with, but has been even more so since her surgery. It's been a special treat for her to have me home almost all day every day. We've spent bunches of time sitting together this last week. Someone posted a video about cat massage. After watching the video I gave her a massage. She was absolutely blissed out. We know when we open our hearts to animals that eventually we are going to lose them. Given that she's 16 our time was already limited. There is a very slim chance the cancer will not return. I'm telling myself to focus on the time we have. I confess I'm hyperalert to any changes in her behavior or eating, fearing the worse is about to hit. Mostly though I'm focusing on enjoying whatever time we have left. |
