I took Fozzie, my Golden mix, to the groomers yesterday for shaving and bath. He hates the bath, and won't let me get him into the tub, so I resorted to the groomers. When I went to pick him up, she told me it took two of them to get him into the grooming tub. I don't doubt it, and he is very strong, 75 lb. This morning he woke me up crying. I took him to my vet, and he said a vertebrae had been cracked or hurt. He gave me some pain pills, and said he should get well within a week. I hope so. Vet said sometimes the tail has to be removed!

Wow! I think your groomers need reporting for that! Hope your dog recovers quickly!

I did just call the groomers and tell them about this. But, truly, I don't blame them for this as I know how Fozzie is about the bath. I'm 63 and I have tried to get him into my tub here at home for a bath, and it's impossible. I felt I was near hurting myself trying to get him into the tub. The groomer did tell me she couldn't get him in the tub without the assistant.
I gave him the pain pill the vet gave me, and said to continue giving for the week. I will do that. He is already much more active and seems better, not crying!!

He is beautiful....I hope he feels better soon!

Do they have a groomer at the vet's office you could use instead? My vet has one, but I imagine that might not be all that commonplace.

Poor Fozzie. Does the groomer have the kind of bath that a dog can walk into?

Hopefully Fozzie's tail is only bruised and heals quickly. My cat's tail got really kinked and the vet said possible amputation but her tail healed.

Do you have mobile dog washes that can come to your place? That might not stress Fozzie out too much. Your vet should know.

Cute dog....... love his ears.

The vet told me Fozzie's tail would hang limp for a day or so, then begin raising, then wagging. He was wagging his tail this morning. I'm happy he is healing. Glad it's not broken and needing further attention.
This groomer, who is excellent, btw, did shave part of his tail, which I asked her to do. He won't let me near his tail, which has hair over 6 or 7 inches long.
She shaved it near his rump and cut the rest of it down. I suspect he may have struggled while she was doing this.
The vet said next time I take him for grooming to come get a pill to sedate him! I will do that!

I'm relieved to hear the broken vertebrae is in his tail and not his back. I think there might be a water free shampoo available. Check with your vet or groomers. My love to Fozzie.

One time I slammed the cat's tail in the car door accidentally and it hurt him a lot.

Then I got a stick and some duct tape and I made a splint and the cat was walking around for weeks with a straight duct-tape covered tail

He seemed to have made a full recovery, although I wouldn't be surprised if his tail was numb or numbened

Aaaw. He's like Fozzie Bear from the muppets. I'm praying for Fozzie to have a speedy recovery .

My cat broke its tail once and I had to laugh though I know it couldn't feel good. It would get up on something then jump down and, since it could not control its tail, it would just hit the ground so landing would sound like, "Thump, HISSSS!" It healed fine though. I think it is like human tongues?

They are finely tuned machines.

Did you wrap your cats tail in tape to straighten it or did it heal on its own?

Vet told me first Fozzie's tail would hang limp, then just move a bit side to side, then start wagging sideways, then start raising a bit, the raise and wag.
He is now raising his tail and wagging. He's still acting pitiful!

Maybe he feels guilty. Did you hug him and tell him he's a good boy?

Has his tail improved?
