Yesterday, my uncle told me about an animal that was on the side of the road, less than a mile from my farm place. So I went to check it out, even though it was just before sunset. I had a bad feeling on the way over to the area...

It was a dead cat - MY cat! I hadn't seen my orange kitty in two days, and just figured he was far enough away that he couldn't hear me calling for him. I have three of them (including him) that never stray past the end of the driveway, which is about a quarter of a mile long. (and there are farm fields surrounding this farmsite) But I was getting worried because he had never been gone more than a day before.

His name was Rusty! And he wasn't even a year old. Him and his brother Austin were almost always together. They were the only two kittens I kept from last year, so they had to stay together - to play, to not be lonely, to keep warm at night... It's just really hard to handle. You see, I always wanted an orange cat I could name Rusty. And I had a picture of what I wanted him to look like (of a cat that died a while ago). So all I had to do, was find a kitten to match the name and look like the photo. And after a couple years of searching, I found him!

I raised him from the day he was born, since his mother was one of my cats! I watched him grow and trained him. Since the day he was born, I have seen him nearly every day! And I have a mental illness, so my cats are very very special to me, to help me in ways others can't.

So I brought him back to my place and will have to bury him later today! I just needed to share this with people who understand. I will attach some photos of my Rusty, so you can see just how beautiful he is. And I can tell already that his brother misses him, which is hard to watch.

so please remember me in your thoughts as I deal with this pain and difficult situation. thanks. and enjoy the photos!

I am so, so sorry for your loss. May you always walk in spirit with your beloved Rusty by your side. May the memories of the life you shared help fill the void, may they keep you warm, and mend your heart. (((((jrae)))))

I lost a cat that way. Thankfully (that was in 2001) my two cats I have actually do not like being outside so it's a blessing for me that they like being indoors and hanging out by the windows and not the door.

Thank you guys for all your support in this difficult time for me. I want to share some more photos with you, some of my favorite ones of Rusty. These all are photos I have taken of him.

1st photo - here is Rusty at 11 days old, with his three brothers and his mother Sadie.

2nd photo - Rusty and his brothers at 3 weeks old (aren't they super cute?!)

3rd photo - this is Rusty during his first solo hunting experience

4th photo - Rusty rolling around on the ground, waiting for me to come over and rub his belly

5th photo - Rusty was taking a nap in the sun
-> this is the last picture of Rusty that I took

What beautiful pictures. I missed this thread but want to offer condolences too, it is so hard to lose any pet. How are you and Rusty's brother doing now?

well, it's now been two weeks! can't hardly believe it. but I think we are hanging in there. I think Austin, Rusty's brother, is a little lost. I can't say I blame him. he had been with his brother every single day! I'm trying to spend more time with him and give him more attention. it's just hard, ya know?! cuz I miss Rusty so much!

but I still do the same thing each night. I give my cats each a hug and kiss, and say to them this: 'stay safe, stay warm, stay dry. sleep well and i love you. have a good night and i'll see you tomorrow.' lately, I've been adding a few extra things to that- "have a good night and 'hopefully' I will see you tomorrow." and "please don't die on me!"

thanks for your support everyone! it means so much to me, to have people who understand what i am going through...
