With sloppy kisses and swishing tails, it’s hard not to notice how much dogs love their owners, as if their only purpose is to love, love, love you and sometimes eat. That’s because we’ve been breeding dogs for tens of thousands of years, selecting the cutest and waggiest pooches for pets. Young pups even respond to human gestures. It’s no wonder that cats, by comparison, sometimes come across as aloof and distant or spitting fur balls of fury. But that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to decode your cat -- we simply need to “use cat rules, not human rules” of attachment, says Carlos Siracusa, a veterinarian and cat behavior expert at the University of Pennsylvania. Here are six signs your cat just might actually love you: 1. Your cat doesn’t flee the room when you show up. Take your cat’s continued presence as a compliment. A solitary hunter by nature, a cat that simply hangs out nearby, or curls up close for a nap, is a creature that feels comfortable, comfortable enough to even like you. 2. Your cat saunters by with an upright, curled tail. ![]() As John Bradshaw, who authored the book Cat Sense and studies animal-human relationships at the University of Bristol, writes for the Washington Post: In colonies, when two cats are working out whether to approach each other, one usually raises its tail; if the other is happy to approach, it raises its tail, too. The tail-up signal almost certainly evolved during domestication, arising from a posture wildcat kittens use when greeting their mothers 3. Your cat locks eyes and gives you a slow blink. A feline blink is the so-called “cat kiss.” It’s a way for cats to appease one another, says Siracusa. With a slow blink, your cat is basically saying, I’m feeling good, let’s not fight. 4. Your cat wants to do your hair and lick your face. When a cat licks you with a tongue like sandpaper, it might not feel so friendly -- but a certain amount of grooming or licking, Siracusa says, indicates closeness. 5. Your cat rubs you with his or her cheek. When cats run their cheeks alongside your legs or face, there’s more going on than simple headbutts. Cats secrete pheromones in glands on their faces and paws. As they rub, cats leave behind a smelly trail of molecules. It’s an odor that we can’t detect, but Siracusa calls it “a friendly smell” for cats. 6. Your cat brings you “presents.” ![]() Cat moms teach kittens how to hunt through demonstration. When cats leave dead animals at your door, he or she is simply treating you like a member of family -- a part of the family that can’t hunt very well. But for the safety of your cat and your neighborhood wildlife, you should consider keeping cats indoors. |

Very nice, Illegal Toilet. What does it mean if your cat chases you and nips your shin? (Never mind......Maybe I don't want to know.

My cat wasn't very affectionate, never bringing presents, licking faces, or spending a lot of time around people. But she did do the tail hook, would sometimes rub her cheek, and wouldn't leave the room just because someone came in. She was more likely to hop up next to them to steal their body heat, then steal where they were sitting once they got up to do anything.
She was a really feisty, stubborn cat, but had been abused by the breeder before going to the store so she didn't really like people a whole lot. When people would come over they quickly learned not to act like she was a regular cat, because she'd sneak up and bite their toes while they were sitting, or smack them. A lot of people went home with scratches or bite marks because they overstepped their boundaries with her. That improved in later years, and for the second half of her life she would come in my room every night to sleep on my bed. But for all her years (17 or 18 of them) she had a temper, and if anyone did the slightest thing she didn't like she would attack. As little kids my sister and I were clawed and bitten constantly by her, not because we were doing anything to her, but because she didn't like how we were singing, or how we were dancing or running around. If you ran down the hallway she'd chase after you all the way to your bed, then sit there on the ground and wouldn't let you off without trying to bite or chase you more. If you were eating seafood she would yell and bite you unless you give her some. If you were petting her she'd be purring one second, then decide she was done with you and attack. And she was nasty to my dog, always getting him to come in close as though she wanted to be friends, then would swat his face a bunch of times. The vet actually thought she had something wrong with her brain, and in later years it made sense as she increasingly behaved like she had dementia. But she's still my favorite pet out of all the ones I've had, though if she had been bigger she probably would have had to have been put down as a dangerous animal. |

Based on this all of mine love me. They all hit five out of six. Actually five out of five. None of mine are allowed outside so they can't hunt and bring me presents.

My cats do all accept the presents (indoor cats) however, Charlie does like to play fetch and will bring me the toy to throw. So maybe he is bringing me "presents".

I certainly hope they do.
When I go to bed, they hop up onto the bed and start kneading. The one girl meows to be petted, and her brother head butts me or steps on my chest. The other one lays aside of me. Sometimes I have all three laying in a bunch aside of me, and sometimes I have two on one side and one on the other, and I feel like I am in a sleeping bag. When I sit on the couch, they climb up for pettins. I taught the boy how to high-five and my mom (their grandma, LOL) gets almost offended if she doesn't get a high five. They do act loving, and I know that I love them. |

Cats I have now like me, not specifically my cats but I live with them...and two of them tend to like sleeping on my bed and will sometimes stretch out taking up a lot of room so I can barely squeeze in and go to sleep. But yeah a big grey cat called ragnar and then a much smaller black cat with no tail...there is also a lighter grey cat like close to white fur with a tint of gold somehow and a brown one, the brown one is the mom of the grey and whitish one and is also missing a tail but wasn't born that way like the black one.

My cat is always coming in with his tail in a hello gesture and he cuddles with me and follows me around. I think he luffs me...

my youngest cat makes sure to clean my face, hair, and back of the hand. he also sleeps on my chest or between my legs when i go to bed. he's also kneading a lot, and i have to clip his claws because it hurts too much when he does it on me.
the older one cleans my hand at random. he likes clawing on a random pair of jeans of mine, and i let him because i adore him. thy don't bring me presents, for they are indoor cats. they both rub against me, but the younger one more than the older one. i am sure my cats love me, haha.

I've had 6 cats in my lifetime.
I never knew Andre. He was an obese Maine-coon and when I was little my parents kept him out on the porch with Faith because they were afraid he would bite me (my parents had sort of accidentally cultured him into thinking that biting was okay). He died right before I turned 2. He was 12. Faith was the same age as Andre, only she was much tinier and a lot more energetic and spunky until she got old, which was when I knew her. She loved to be held and pet and as soon as you touched her it was purr purr purr. She died just short of turning 18. We adopted Elizabeth as a 5yo when I was 5. She was afraid of everything, including her own shadow, up until the recent years when we think she got dementia, or else she just forgot that she was afraid of everything. She gave me blinks but never licked or anything like that. Also, she had no tail due to an accident before we adopted her. She might have purred, but if she did it was so soft that nobody ever heard it. We ended up putting her down a week ago, at the age of 19. We adopted Snick when I was 10. She's eight-and-a-half now. She is definitely my cat (or I suppose I should say I'm her favorite human). She's so cuddly <3 and fat. Sometimes when I'm walking down the hall, she'll follow me and then lead me to my bedroom with her tail up and meowing insistently, and then she'll jump on my bed and wait to be pet and start purring incessantly. Sometimes she'll give "love nibbles", although they're more like love chomps, and she has broken the skin before. She doesn't bring me gifts (indoors only) and she'll mark me all day. She used to lick my fingers too, but she kind of stopped that and now only does it if I have meat juice or cheese dust on my fingers. Ninja is almost 6 now. He basically waltzed into the house and declared that he was home. He's not as cuddly as the Snick, but he does have his own personality that actually very closely resembles Faith's. He's spunky and he spazzes a lot. If he could go outside and kill birds and snakes and squirrels, I'm sure he would be more than happy to. He likes pettings and lovings, but on his own terms -- if he sees you in the kitchen or by the window, be ready to pay attention to him. He also marks me a lot, and his love nibbles are actually reasonable lol. Finally we have Aja, who's probably a year old, and whom we just adopted. We don't know her very well yet, but while we haven't introduced her to the other animals, she's basically claimed my parents' bed as her throne. She's so adorable. She'll claim and lick and nibble and suck on your fingers... <3 So do you think our three current cats (Snick, Ninja, and Aja) love us? lol |

Mine follows me everywhere. Will watch outside the class door when I go outside. She'll wait for me,& meow when I get closer . She'll also paw & rub up against windows when I'm outside. She'll follow me a lot of places. Many times she'll be on my bed with me, or by it.
She'll also does what's in the article beside bringing home a present. |
