Or is it just a stereotype? Think male cat owner and it's Jon Arbuckle from Garfield, or some random loser who can barely dress himself and lives alone.

Also, what about males who walk their cat? Is this a turn-off?

Does cat ownership make males less attractive?
Thanks for this!

Not at all! A guy having any pet automatically makes him about five times more attractive.

I am a male and i find that cats make us seem weak and ineffectual. I am sure women feel this way too.

If you think that, that is your idea, and if you want to paint that image on other guys, you are free to do that. I question why the need to do so though.

Stereotypes are so boring and shared by less people than you think.

it's just one person's opinion. I feel that this is how cat guys are perceived.

I walk my cat on a harness and I'm sure it creates a certain imagine in women's minds.

There was an episode of Seinfeld where he was criticised for being a salad eater and therefore not manly. While i realise that this is a sitcom, i think the idea of 'manliness' is not necessarily in line with our own best interests, in this conversation, to eat our greens and walk whatever kind of beast we want..

A man walking a cat on a harness can be described in two words to me - chick.magnet.

Absolutely not! The fact that my husband had an elderly cat that he loved like a child when we met was one of the first things that attracted me to him.

Nope, a guy with a cat, walking a cat, is a man to be admired. He thinks for himself, and is self confident. Verrry sexy!!!

'Simon's cat' cartoon springs to mind... and he is cool (not as cool as the cat but cool lol)

I can't see why having a cat would make men seem ineffectual... actually to me having a cat and being a man would make perfect sense: Men (me) prefer a less complicated life and as cats are highly independent (as the saying goes... you don't own a cat, they own you) it is a perfect partnership.

Dog ownership is a lot more complicated... dogs need a lot of fuss, attention... if you forget to feed them... they won't go out into the garden and hunt and they need to be walked regularly whereas cats come and go as they choose.

The fact that some guys like cats is wonderful. I recently saw a list of male celebrities who adored their cats. I think that guys who like cats are cool IT. Sean Connery and George Clooney love their cats. Don't be afraid to show that you like cats IT.

Sometimes i walk my cat and I get looks. The kids like him and they pet him with their sticky fingers (which also annoys me) but apart from that i also feel exposed and that people are laughing, particularly women

I knew a very cool musician, a tall guy, who would cuddle his cats like babies, even though the cats hated it. It shows you have confidence to be a guy with a cat. Cats are genetically 90% tigers, can't get more male than that!

My very good looking T mentioned having cats. He'll sometimes come in with scratches on his arms--maybe from playing with them or trying to pill them?

I know for a fact either gender can be laughed at for walking a cat. Like stupid comments like you should just let the poor cat run free (yea and what be killed by a car dumbbutt?) or silly jokes about the look of your dog.

IT, my answer to your question is Heck no! Any man I would be interested in better like animals.

As for getting odd looks when you walk your on a leash. I'm female and got odd looks when I used to walk my cat on a harness and leash. Unless the person looking says something you have no way of knowing what they are thinking. Why assume they they are laughing at you? You know what happens when we assume, right?

I have gotten hostile reactions from males for walking my cat, a group of teenagers who threw change at me and told me to buy myself a dog.

I haven't received any negative feedback from females about walking my cat, I just assume it, as you said.

A man has a cat I think more of than a man that has a dog. As for walking on a lead he would get alot of attention good and badbit he would certainly come across as a very caring thoughtful human to hose that were the same.

Most cats, if you put them on a leash will fall over and generally act like you have mortally hurt them. So anyone walking a cat gets props from me...I'm female.
I also know of at least three books where the main protagonist is a single male living with a cat or cats, they're all cool. One is a guy who walks his cat to work every morning, then they walk home. In one book he talked about how he was first perceived as weird because who walks cats? But the townspeople came to admire this about him. It was a detective series book, so are the other two, the cat who....books and the last one is about a macho guy, a cat moves in with him, then starts to talk, it more like a old fashioned hard boiled gumshoe detective book. Sorry I'm not good with titles or I'd give them to you. I get most of my books from the library and forget the titles but remember the stories. These are American books though the cat who... Books are pretty widely read you might find them over there.

So if at least 3 books sell and feature men with cats it can't be such a bad thing. For myself it I was walking a cat or dog I'd feel like people were talking about or laughing at me....so maybe it's not your cat?
