a few weeks ago i got a hamster to help me stay focused on something, to make me feel better. unbeknownst to me i picked the wildest hamster.

since i've gotten her she's
*gotten out of her first cage numerous times
*gone through 3 cages
*gotten out of the ball
*while free she hid in the cabinet with the cleaning supplies
*chew the new cages plastic "stories" up
*chew on the bars

her only urge is to run. i love this little ham but good lord i didn't expect to get such an adventurous, rebellious little ham

found solutions to most of the problems. just wanted to share!!

My hamster was an escape artist. Does your hamster have enough things in his cage to chew on? Their teeth continue growing throughout their lives so he needs lots of stuff to chew on.

Glad you solved most of the problems. Usually, that kind of behavior comes from boredom. I used to seal off my room, making sure plugs and cords were out of reach, and let each of my hamsters have turns running around in my room for awhile most days. I should mention that each hamster 🐹 had its own cage.

I've also seen some very creative hamster homes with lots to do to stave off boredom. Google for ideas.

Wow. I have a dog exactly like your hamster! The vet even joked I should get a hamster wheel to keep her busy. I have a gazillion things for her to chew on, deer antler, beef bone, rawhide, nylabone, chewtoys, Kong, even brought sticks inside for her. Made toys out of t-shirts and water bottles. But she prefers my couch, windowsills and living room table. She runs and escapes from everything. She's broken a collar, escaped from a harness. She's like Houdini.

Every hamster I've ever met was an escape artist. I thought it was just part of owning a hamster.

Webgoji (waking up at 2 AM to see Mrs. Webgoji hanging over the bed) : Wha? Uh?
Mrs. Webgoji : Ssshh! It's Chavo. She's looking at me.

The next thing I saw was a mass of arms and legs fly off the bed as Mrs. Webgoji jumped on the little rodent, snatching her up and scooping her away to spend another few minutes in her cage ... until getting out a little later.

I want to agree with Citrine's post. I had a hamster that kept getting out, and one day, I hadn't noticed its cage was empty when I got out of bed. I had made myself a bowl of cereal, and when I walked by the entrance to the living room, I screamed because I saw my hamster, dead, in the mousetrap my brother had put down. I had told him not to do that, and I still get upset thinking about it.
