Last summer my cat Evy bled on my bed for a short while due to the stress of me being gone for two weeks. We took her to the vet and a thousand dollars later we learned nothing was wrong with her.

Now she's bleeding on my bed again. She recently got groomed so I am assuming it's from the stress of it.

I don't want to take her to the vet. Does anyone know how to make the bleeding stop?

Why on earth would you not take her to a vet?

I already took her to the vet and the diagnosis was stress and they gave me absolutely nothing to give her and advised me to give her more toys. A thousand dollars to be told to give her more play toys.

Why would I put to sleep a perfectly healthy cat? TF? Do you not get what I'm saying? What's wrong with her, as I have said many times, is she is stressed. STRESSED, so she bleeds from her urethra because she has built up benign crystals FROM STRESS. I've already done an ultrasound plus $1000 worth of tests and NOTHING IS WRONG WITH HER. She is stressed from the groomers.

So I guess to make it clear to what I am asking is a) How to calm her down so that eventually the bleeding stops BECAUSE IT WILL and b) is there anything I can give her that could make her stop bleeding? Would kitty pain reliever work for her?

And FYI the bleeding is just a thumbnail spot of blood on the bed, two spots for two nights she's slept in my bed.

cat bleeding from the urethia from stress that builds up crystals in the urinary tract is called a urinary tract infection. how it happens is when a cat is stressed out they lick their self. bacteria builds up causing a bacterial infection as a result the cats immune system kicks in trying to combat the bacteria. this causes crystals to form in the cats urinary tract. passing the crystals causes the bleeding. think of it like a human being who has kidney stones trying to pass those through the urinary tract.

what helps my cats is by making sure the litter pan is cleaned every day. they have clean and fresh water (sometimes when I know I cant be home I leave the sink dripping in the bathroom for the cats to get fresh water any time.)

with fresh water available 24/7 it thins out their urine so that its not as strong and crystals cant form.

for lowering the cats stress I provide dark areas where the pet can hide, self sooth and relax (closets and dresser draws, paper bags, cardboard boxes, even leaving a shirt or jacket that I wear becomes a hiding play / de stressing area for all my pets.)

you dont need to spend lots of money to have a happy stress free cat. my pets dogs and cats alike enjoy an old worn out brush, paper bags, crumpled up papers , one even enjoys carrying around caps from soda bottles, milk jugs, a spare shoe string...

You could try catnip.Or you could try putting a diaper or something on her.Or just make her stay off of your bed while she's bleeding.

A thumbnail spot of blood doesn't sound like that big of a deal, you can always wash your bedding.

Thank you!

I called the vet and the first thing they said was "we'll run some tests". NO! I am not shelling out a thousand dollars for the same result I did the last time I shelled out a thousand dollars!!!!!! She is perfectly fine!

I know they have anti-depressants for dogs, but what about cats? I think she just needs a little extra support when she feels traumatized, when her world alters. She freaked out last summer when I was gone for two weeks, now she's freaking out after the groomer because she has no hair. I've been bringing her in because she's needy and wants to be with me. She's been super snuggly as well. She hasn't made a peep the past two nights she's been in. Usually she wakes me up in the middle of the night.

bit shocked at some of these replys! , in the uk you can get a plug in device which releases a stress relieveing hormones in the air called feliway its effective and fairly cheap.you can also buy food which helps to prevent the build up of the Chrystal's in the urine as this can get worse and become painful and very problematic for the cat I hope this helps .

Yes, food can help.

We got our cat Science Plan Optimum Care because he developed crystals, when he looks a bit green in the gills I go to the pet shop and buy some special food (here its not available at regular super markets) and it works very quickly.

Put your cat to sleep??? Like W...T.. F!

hey

my male cat is having the same problems. he has crystals in his urine within his bladder. i paid $400 to find that out (at an emergency vet clinic, bc it was 1am when i took him. i thought his bladder was obstructed)

anyway, they said it was stress too. i asked if it could become chronic and they said it could and in that case they would give him anti-anxiety meds!!!

so ive done some research online. cat's with urinary problems (blood in urine, peeing outside litter box, straining to pee, peeing small amounts or none at all) need more wet food to get more water intake. also, there are a few brands that make dry and wet food specifically for cats with urinary issues. 2 i can think of are the science diet (wet food) and purina one brand made for urinary issues.

i also feel my cat's bladder daily to see if it is obstructed (it should be a squishy lump. if its obstructed it will feel thick and big, like a baseball.) obstructed cats could die in a rapid amount of time.

they told me male cats are more prone to urinary/urethra issues because their urethra is long and winding, while female cats are prone to UTIs/infections because their urethras are wide and short, which makes it easier for bacteria to enter it.

anyway, with all that said, my advice is to give her more wet food and keep her littler box really clean. also clean out her water bowel with baking soda and put fresh water in it daily

i hope your kitty gets better.

Look into lower urinary track disorder. My cat Charlie has it. His bladder gets inflamed when he gets stressed out. He also has a history of having crystals. He is on prozac to help with his anxiety. He was on amitryptaline before but that wasn't helping enough. He gets a special medication when he gets stressed out and pees outside the litter box to decrease inflammation and pain. Then he is back to himself in no time. My primary vet has given me some to keep on hand due to his recurrent issues so I don't have to go to the vet every time. However, he has a history of going in multiple times and them checking him out before they did this. I also use feeliway in my apartment for the cats. My cats are also eating a prescription diet. They are on Royal Cainin SO diet. This is what I have done to keep my kitty with urinary issues happy.

Fresh clean water
Wet food
Special dry food
Soothing routine and calm owner
Daily brushing
And, try the feliway

I'm on my way to pick up the Feliway. I called the vet who had it at a different location but I'm guessing it will be cheaper to pick it up at petco. The vet also said to give it a month and if it doesn't help they can look into another form of medication such as an antidepressant. I'm more nervous about that because I don't want to screw up her brain chemistry and I don't know how I feel about giving her something as strong as an antidepressant. However, speaking with the nurse was the best response I've had with the vet.

I think the Feliway will work wonders although I've yet to try it and a bit confused on how it'll work.

And I also washed my sheets as well and planning on cleaning my room which I think will help her mental health.

I decided not to go with the Feliway as she's an outdoor cat. Instead, I got her chewable vitamin treats. One of them is Vetriscience Composure for stress and the other is Urinary Support. I'm supposed to give two of each for her a day. We'll see if it works.

Evy ate all but one of the calming chewables, but the directions said to give 1-2 so I'm not too worried. I'll keep an eye on her and see if she improves.

No blood on my bed last night!

I'm going to keep giving her the vitamins. She went gaga over the wet food as any cat would, prancing all around as soon as I opened the can.

The only problem is she's not big on treats. Yesterday she ate 3 out of 4, after the previous post I gave Salem his treats and Evy her special treats but she wouldn't eat them. I'll try cutting them up so it looks like she's getting a lot of treats and then I'll just focus on giving them to her when she comes in at night.

I'm starting to wonder if she's really bleeding. Her butt is wet. I tried my best with a washcloth (she was not happy to have her butt scrubbed) and no blood.

It has been raining and the spots where she's bled is more brown than red. But if it's mud, why would there still be a stain leftover from washing the sheets?

Hm....
