I have two cats; a tortishell age 12 and a tabby age 11. My tabby has these bumps on her neck and around her head. My tortishell has no bumps or "bites" at all. My friend thinks it still could be flea related and to take her into the vets even though I am dead broke. I've tried everyday to put on triple antibiotic on them and it shrinks them, but they won't go away. If the stuff is on her she won't scratch them she just licks at them. Does anybody know what this could be without me consulting my vet? I would assume if its fleas my other cat would have bites too but she has a good clean coat and no bumps and both are indoor cats only. Help!

My first thought was fleas too. Could be the one with bumps is allergic to the flea bites. How about treating both cats for fleas and see if it helps?
Thanks for this!

Thanks. I called my vet and she said she could treat both cats with Revolution for a nominal fee and give the one with the bad bites? a steroid injection. I should be able to do this after payday in December. I think because my tabby has long moist hair is why she is so bad. My tortishell only has a few here and there nothing to really be concerned about and her coat is shiny and healthy. But I'll go ahead and get them both treated.

It is good that you are able to go and see the vet and get an answer for what is wrong. Good to hear that the vet isn't going charge the normal fee. Keep us posted.
Thanks for this!

I don't know what normal is but it was $24 Revolution ea., $24 Steroid (only my tabby), and $24 exam ea. But still waaay cheaper than a real animal hospital. One cat would have probably cost me $300 or more.

I'm glad you were able to get them the care that they needed.

My tortie cat had these patches of bumps show up from time to time and the vet said that they were allergic dermatitis. She then gave us some Prednisone tablets to give to her daily for a couple of weeks, and it cleared right up. Unfortunately, she kept on flaring up with more bumps from time to time so we'd always have to bring her to the vet at least once a month or two and come home with more Prednisone. Whatever she was reacting to was environmental so we tried a lot of different things, like changing her food bowls from plastic to metal or glass ones, and stuff like that. Coincedently, the bumps only began appearing after we brought our first dog into the house. We are entirely convinced that she was allergic to the dog.

Eventually she had total renal failure and was so far gone that it was kindest to alleviate her suffering and euthanize her. She was a great cat, full of character (we likened her scruffy asymmetrically marked face and personality to that of an old broad from the Bronx, wearing a tatty old bathroom, with curlers hanging out of her hair, and a cigarette dangling from her mouth shouting out her apartment window in a hoarse, chain-smoking voice at the kids below to be quiet because she can't watch her soap operas with all that racket going on) and we greatly miss her.

Anyways, I'm rambling on. When it comes to our furbabies we somehow find the money to take proper care of them, right?
