I told the vet that our cat Sammy had run away when we brought our new cat Carey in for a check-up. She said Sammy would be close by, since he was an indoor cat and would get scared and hide once he got outside. We canvassed the neighbors with no luck and then I thought to check around the outside of our house. And he was hiding in a pile of boxes under our carport!

Now we have two kitties--who have to get used to each other. Carey had taken over Sammy's things. Hubby went out to get two of everything.

Any suggestions for two kitties to tend to?

Excellent news. Glad Sammy turned up.

If you can afford to care for two cats give them time to get used to each other.

Cats are incredible animals. I had Evy for almost three years before Salem showed up as a kitten. They are like brother and sister now. I would let them get used to each other.

Just give them time and space. I would also get a third litter box if you start having an issue with them using the box, it’s a territory thing that is usually solved with an extra box.

I’m so happy you found your kitty!

I have 5 cats in my household and this guide was my go to from the SPCA - Helping your Adopted Cat - and Existing Pets - to Accept Each Other

Good luck!

YIPPEE!!!!!!!!

Trav, I'm so happy for you (and Sammy).

I'd give them time and space to adapt to each other. You can probably expect what I call the "hissing chorus" for a few days while they sort things out.
Thanks for this!

The few times I've had a cat go missing, they always turned out to be very close by.

I'm SO glad you found Sammy! What a relief. If you just leave Sammy and Carey to themselves, give lots of love and petties, patience...I'll bet they'll be just fine together.

Good news about Sammy. Just give them time. We had Sunny for years when my hubby and son rescued a feral kitten. McGee was only 8 ozs and sick when we got him. I had to bottle feed him. That didn't go over real well with Sunny who at that time was 14 years old but they are best buddies now. Sunny still will put him in his place at times and they both groom each other.

Still lots of hissing contests. We're keeping them in their own separate rooms right now.
