Gabe showed up on my farm as about a 4 mo old kitten in 2019. I noticed something small run from under my truck to under my horse trailer. When I walked over to the trailer, he came bounding out at me, climbed my muck boot & leg & curled up in my arms purring. I had no desire to have another pet let alone a cat. I had just lost my soulmate doggie Leo 6 months earlier, & I had his older sister & younger brother both blind & Tawny had doggie dementia & JoGI supposedly had very bad hip problems & my horse had just been shipped here from Calif & was having severe allergic reactions to chiggers that were in the hay I bought (before finding the awesome person I get hay from now) & Izzy was having a hard time adapting to the high humidity here from the Ca desert she had lived in all her life. Too many vet Bill's I didn't need another critter to be responsible for.....

BUT this kitten connected with my heart immediately & he wasn't scared of anything on my farm. It was like he just belonged here.... so he has stayed. He is a constant companion. He makes sure he knows where I am at all times but at the same time, totally owns the house. He talks to me & let's me know exactly what he wants. He plays hide & tackle mom when she walks by & is the most unusual kitty I have ever had.

So last night I was tired when I got back from the barn & feeding my horse. I took the feed & water buckets out of my truck & put them in the garage. I CLOSED THE AUTOMATIC GARAGE DOOR, opened the door to the kitchen & Gabe ran out into the garage where he loves to explore (& find mice). I was exhausted & went up to bed, knowing I was going to sunrise service at church in the morning.

I was so tired I got up in time to throw on some churchy cloths. I opened the kitchen door to the garage & expected Gabe to come running in but instead I found the garage door wide open & kitty paw prints on the weed eater standing up in front of the garage door opener on the wall. I also found a dead mouse gift he left in my pathway through the garage. I walked to my truck driver door & there was Gabe meowing at me to pick him up to go inside for breakfast. Ok, I am going to have to do some garage rearranging so Gabe has no way of reaching the garage opener button. He has watched me enough to know exactly where it was & how it works. I noticed one time before the door was up 2 inches & the opener was crooked on the wall. This time I KNOW he knows how to open the door.

He loves to go outside sometimes & always greets me & jumps in my truck to explore when I get back from the barn if he is outside.

This cat has more personality than any cat I have ever had & a heart connect I never expected to find from my.little kitty buddy. I am sure glad he found my farm since at that time there was no one living around me in a mile both directions up & down the road & no one with property in back or or across the street from my farm. Maybe someone dropped him off....anyway, he is the perfect match for my little critter family & is really great & gentle & loving with my blind dogs. I lost Tawny 1 month before she turned 19 a year ago Feb & then adopted another blind older eskie that March. Gabe just has a personality that gets along with every critter on my farm. I knew he was good when I saw him sniffing noses as that little kitten with my 17.2 hand mare. He is definitely the little clown of the family

LOL! I watch a lot of cat videos, i havent seen one climb a weed whacker to reach the garage door opener yet! They dont need opposable thumbs in this electronic age, they just need to push or pull!

Time for that boy to get a job! Learn to drive a tractor or somethin!

Lol....I do have my horse feed container sitting close to the weed wacker so it makes it easier for him to get onto the handle of the weed wacker but he still has quite a stretch to get to the garage door opener button.

Lol....I think he would willingly drive my truck
Since he loves to be inside like my dogs always did.

Had another strange Gabe experience today....he is proving to be my guard cat. I wonder if he has a little dog in him too.

He was laying in my arms with me in my chair just snuggling. He popped his head up & growled. He has never kitty growled in his almost 2 years here. He jumped off the chair & headed to the front door.....then I heard the doorbell. He is a better guard cat than my dogs. They sleep until they hear the doorbell then bark for the next few hours. Gabe warned me before. It was someone I know so it was ok, but I do feel safe knowing I now have a guard cat in my house too.

So fascinating how they grow to know what is normal & what isn't in their surroundings & can alert us of things that aren't normal.

I think cats are more aware than we might think--and more intelligent. Sounds like Gabe is an extra special, loving kitty. Thanks for telling us about him--and please keep sharing his stories.

He sounds awesome! I’m still chuckling at the dead mouse gift though so thoughtful of him (although you have no use for a dead mouse!)

I have had 3 other cats & been around a lot of barn cats. Gabe is the most unique cat I have had. We sure had a heart connect immediately & I love having pets that are creative in their thinking & fun.

I am sure he will give me lots more stories to share

Most of the time he leaves dead mouse gifts but sometimes I end up with live ones I have to rescue from him. He chased one into my bedroom awhile ago. We were both chasing the mouse around my upstairs. I caught it before he killed it & relocated it away from my farm.....but he always gets praise for keeping down the mice population in my house. He always knows he did good whether he killed it or not (& I rescued it). He is definitely the perfect crazy & loving personality cat that fits right into this crazy critter family I have

Gabe sounds totally awesome and adorable. But I think you may need to kitty proof your place.

Lol....a few things need rearranged but I actually love to let my critters be free to express themselves (as long as no damage is done). What surprises me is that a few times I have said NO to him, he has actually listened & responded by not doing what he was going to do.

I chuckle also because we play "tough kitty" mostly in the morning. I cover up my arms & we wrestle. Every once in awhile he gets carried away & hurts. All I have to do is say ouch & he pushes my arm away & stops. From the time he came into my house I always said, "use soft paw" (no claws) he is really good about not using his claws unless he gets a bit carried away playing. I always thought how fascinating that he was so sensitive at such a young age. Must be a real bonding heart connect & he seems to understand what I say so well. Definitely a unique kitty experience for me & loving it

Eskie, I believe with the special ones there is a heart to heart bond from the getgo. Sounds like you and Gabe have that.

I so agree. Until I experienced it with Leo I never thought it was possible. Then I thought it was a once in a lifetime experience. Never expected to experience it with a kitten that just showed up on my farm but his special heart was just overflowing along with his personality when he showed up here. I was definitely missing that heart connect after losing Leo.
