So back in December 2020 when I was released from the hospital after 11 days because of suicide watch, I bought a bearded dragon lizard 🦎 literally on the way home. I named it Toothless and after watching YouTube videos determined it was a male. Now he is grown and very lazy so I took him to the vet. He was given a clean bill of health.

Are you planning on their having any baby lizards--assuming you get a mate for Toothless? Is Rebel a potential dad? Raising lizards would be cool, I think.

Lol! No. Both are female. I might consider buying a male red to mate with Rebel. The red babies are adorable.

Will you be able to find them good homes, and take the babies back if the home does not work out? Something to consider when thinking about breeding any animal

The worst thing that can happen when a home does not work out, is the pet could end up going into rescue then never leaving the rescue alive, simply due to lack of homes

If you would have the time and space to look after any returned babies if the home does not work out, and the money to do so, until you have found a new forever home for any returned babies, then if there's a demand for them and not many in rescue, then its something to consider, however if the rescues are swamped with unwanted reptiles, its best to not breed them, cause it will be taking homes away from reptiles that will get euthanased due to lack of homes

True. Maybe you can line up homes for them before they are possibly born, Werewoman. I wouldn't think everyone would want one, but aren't they fairly easy to care for--and not noisy and not needing walking?

I would only breed if I could do so responsibly. I agree. Bearded dragons need lots of calcium. They require two heat lamps, one for day and one for night as well as a UVB lamp which is one source of calcium. They can get rickets easily so proper diet and light are vital.

When the weather is not 100° I put them on a harness and take them outside. Right now the pavement is too hot. I'm considering buying a play yard like they make for guinea pigs to put them in for exercise. Natural sunlight is great too since they are desert animals.

i wouldnt get any bearded dragons cause i know i could not provide them with what they need

Oh you could, but they can get expensive. You learn better cheaper ways as you go along.

Actually I have a lot of little green lizards cavorting in my yard and sometimes in my house. They would make good pets, I'd think. But I already have two cats, a dog, and a visiting granddog to keep an eye on.

It varies but you can get one from a chain pet store for $100 or less. A tank set up will cost you $300. Food just depends on what you choose to feed. I buy lots of leafy greens cheap which is a large part of their diet. The insects aren't cheap though.

Also, it would depend on Willow - whether she would allow one in the house without being like "how very DARE that creature come into MY HOUSE"

cause she can be a madam when other animals come into the house (other cats, insects, you name it she gets angry if it comes in)

I have known her to anger yowl at a spider that got into the house - as though i can control spider behaviour .......

Beardies are very docile. If they feel threatened, they flatten out and puff out a big black beard to make themselves look larger but that's about it. It is possible for them to be friends. It does happen between species though its more likely if they are babies together.

They can live up to 17 or 18 years depending on how well they are cared for and get proper nutrients. They get rickets if they don't get enough calcium.

What sort of insects do they eat? Can they eat live ones that the owner catches for them (which would be cheaper)?

They eat mealworms, super worms, black soldier fly larvae, and crickets. No you can't catch bugs for them because the insects are bred for that purpose and are safer. As adults only 20% of their diet is insects. The rest is greens and veggies.

Looks like bearded dragons won't be a option for me anyways, pet shops round here dont cater for anything more exotic than fish or rabbits or guinea pigs or rodents ..........

(naturally they cater for cats and dogs)

i'm referring to the equipment as well, vivariums and bedding and food etc
