Sigh. We are dealing with kennel cough in our newly rescued Beagle. We took her to the emergency vet over the weekend and got her started on twice a day antibiotics and four times a day cough medicine. She isn't coughing as frequently or coughing up flem as frequently or as much at one time so I think the medicines are helping. Still it's a rough patch with her. I end up holding her like a baby for hours on end and she's heavy, about 25 lbs so it's not easy. I let her sleep in the bed with me but then she coughed up white flem onto the sheets so I need to clean those. I read online that kennel cough can last a while. I'm hoping we only have a few more days of this but I don't know. We are leaving on vacation tomorrow and leaving our fur babies in the very capable hands of a friend but I just feel bad that she is sick. Poor Zoey.

Kit, BG had kennel cough when I got him. My vet it's common in dogs from shelters. He got over it fast. I hope your baby recovers quickly.

Zoey does seem to be responding to the medicine. She is still coughing but she is no longer coughing up white foamy flem. She definitely had more energy yesterday, wanting to play rather than wanting to be cuddled. She's a sweet dog. I hope she does okay when we are on vacation.

Thanks everyone. She coughed up some white stuff while we were gone, but seems to have stopped now. She is still coughing a lot but her energy is coming back. She and I played fetch for probably half an hour this morning. Usually she has just been laying on top of me while I watch the news in the morning but today she was really into fetch. So I think getting her energy back is a good sign. I read that it can take the cough a while to go away. I think she has been on the antibiotics for 8 days now and she has to be on them for 14 but if there is medicine left in the bottle and she is still coughing I will still give it to her. She is also getting her cough medicine. She still coughs though.
