Elwood the cat really loves playing fetch. He even likes the squeaker. I buy him small dog sized tennis balls that squeak and I'll throw the ball for him and he chases after it. It's still too big for him to retrieve, but there are other types of softer balls that he can fetch and bring back, but he likes dipping all his soft toys in his water dish...I can't buy him toys that are soft because of that.

He likes small dog sized Kong toys that I fill with cat food paste. He goes nuts over it!

He's recently been into chasing shadows. He tries catching the shadow.

He likes playing in his pop up tunnel.

I feed Elwood Diamond Naturals. I did a lot of research and I chose this before I adopted him, but it turned out that that's what the shelter fed him, so I didn't have to worry about switching him over. I worked at a pet store, and Diamond Natural has the best quality ingredients for the price. A 15 pound bag lasts him up to six months and it's not that expensive.

The cat paste he likes is an 8 pack for $2 and one pouch fills up the kong toy.

My coworker recently gave him wheatgrass that he absolutely loves. Now he won't eat my plants because he knows that the wheatgrass is just for him.

What toys/food does your pet like?

My cat Clio loves wheatgrass too. She also loves catnip. She likes playing with her fishing rod toy with string and a little stuffie on the string.

My cat Smudge loves Greenies treats. He likes chasing golf-ball-sized balls, smooth or fuzzy. He is immune to catnip and looks at Clio like she's crazy when she's under the influence.

It's funny how they have such different personalities. Our boy cat Smudge is so goofy. If he plays with the string toys he will attack the string rather than the feather toy or stuffie that the string is attached to.

Clio's favourite thing is sitting on the couch between Mommy and Daddy. She is soooo happy and just purrs her heart out. Smudge prefers sitting on his cat post.

One quirky thing is when Smudge plays rough, he will box or even scratch Daddy, but never Mommy. It's so odd. Like my husband will put his hand up to where Smudge is perched on his cat post and Smudge will swat him with his paw, but if I put my hand up he just licks my hand.

Most of my guys are older/senior. Not a lot of playing anymore.

Mikey used to love playing fetch with a wadded up piece of paper. He brought me one last week. We played for a few minutes, then he pooped out.

There is a basket full of toys they will occasionally raid for something to chase around. Things that roll seem to be the favorite.

Miette likes to raid the ragbin, steal a rag, then drag it around the house SCREAMING her head off. She also likes to "attack" lamp shades. Can't tell you how many she's destroyed.

Everybody used to love the laser pointer. I stopped using it when they figured out the red dot came from the thing I had in my hand. Stopped using it because they would look at the pointer. I was afraid they'd get hurt looking at the light.

Catnip is a hit with all of them. Abby and Mikey get totally stoned on it.

Beeg, the dog, doesn't play much anymore either. At this point his favorite ways to play are zoomies around the yard or chasing things like chickens, rabbits, tortoises. I am a spoil sport about the chasing because he'll kill what he chases.

When he was younger his favorite toys were empty individual Gatorade bottles and an old length of rope. He would bite the bottles to make a crunching sound he loved. The rope had multiple uses. His two favorites were tug-of-war and "helicopter". He loved tug-of-war so much I tied a rope to a tree branch so he could play any time he wanted. For helicopter he would hold the end of the rope while I spun around fast enough for his feet to come off the ground. Let me tell you spinning around lifting a 70 pound dog off the ground is a workout!

My guy is 19 and just recently went blind. When he lost his sight he stopped playing with his toys. His favorite was tiny fuzzy mice. He loved me throwing them and he would jump up and catch them. Feathers on a string were also good. He also loved stalking the animals outside. If he was in the other room sunbathing and a rabbit, squirrels or birds appeared I’d yell out, bunny, or birdy, squirrel! And he’d come running go right up to the window and into stalker pose with his tail swishing hard.

About 6 months ago he has developed anorexia and it’s hard to find food he will eat. He absolutely refused senior food of any kind. Currently his favorite is fancy feast bits in gravy. I even tried Hills science diet that we used for sick cats, but no go. He still loves his temptations tho.

My Sophie never really played with toys on her own, but if it was something that got me involved, she was all for it! For example, her favorite toy (even today at 12, nearly 13) is a glove I made that had yarn and cloth and little knick knacks glued to the fingers. I could get a good half-hour of play out of her in her younger days. Even today, with her senior status, she'll come back to that glove for a few minutes.

Nammu, would Sir eat plain (no seasoning) chicken? That's my favorite go to for kitties who lose their appetite.

Liz, I’ll have to try that. He’s never ate the insides of any chicken we baked before but but they all had seasoning that maybe got to the insides. Today though he’s eating the tuna pate. That’s amazing 🤩

Zoey likes to play with water bottles and ropes. She will chase a ball but not fetch. She likes to fetch with a frisbee though. And bonus points for running through the house at top speed with someone's underwear or socks and refusing to give them back.

As for the cats, they will play if something is dangling and moving gently from like a breeze or something but most of the time they are sleepy girls and don't get too riled up. Although Helen Rose does have this one plastic toy where the balls are on a track and she does get them spinning around the track pretty fast! She'll do that for maybe 5 minutes at a time and then she loses interest.

Nammu, I toss a chicken breast or tenderloin in the microwave just long enough to cook it through. Let it cool a bit and and feed bits of it to the one that is feeling poorly.
